Default Need some direction.

First, some history.

I have a thread (http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114824) that tells how I got my 05 A4 LS2 GTO from stock 13.6 to bolt on 12.1 over the year or so I had her. I guess you can call this a road map to low 12's in a car with her heads and cam untouched.

I should receive my 09 LS3 Vette (auto, 2.73 gears without Z51 package) and after a couple of thousand break in miles may start up with some boltons.

My goal.........11.99 or better.

I will start first from the ground up with some drag radials. With my GTO it was real easy to get Nitto's on the rear and use them as daily tires, and be assured of safety during rain for either my wife or myself. From what I can gather, Nitto seems to offer this tire in 285/35/19 (http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tir...il.do?pc=40372), however I am unsure if this tire is like the Nitto 555 that I had on my GTO. Any other suggestions on a daily driver/drag radial that would be safely driven?

I held off getting the exhaust with the dual mode exhaust, as I figured I could take the 1K and spend it better. My first and cheapest thought is exhaust cutouts (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...11529_-1_10245) which bypass most of the cat back, however I don't know how easy these are to access. On the GTO, I just reached way under the car and removed 3 bolts and the cap, however I haven't yet seen the undercarriage of the Vette to know whether this is possible or not. If not, I may look at an electronic version, however I feel the motors on the valves may clog up. Any other suggestions on cut outs?

Chuck from HPE will handle all the tuning.

I am not a big fan of cold air intakes, but open to suggestions.

Headers, possible torque converter way down the road. Also please realize that I fully understand that the Vette is not the GTO, but at this time it is the best thing I have to compare to get the Vette in the high 11's.

Lastly, my track. Houston Raceway Park which usually has great preparation, but lousy weather from April through October. The DA's are killer during those months.

Thanks in advance.

You should have no problem getting into the 11s however if you do not want to go to a Cold Air Intake it will be a little tougher..

I have an 05 C6 (4 speed Automatic) Vette, all thats been done to it is a Vararam Cold Air Intake, 160 T Stat, Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, and a Tune by Cartek

I've run several 12.11 runs most at 114 mph with a best Speed of 115 mph.. Those times are with a stock converter and stock rear (3.15) When I go to a 3200 converter I should see 11's with no problem.. My goal is to run in the 11.50 index class (11.50 Heads UP)

Your car will go an 11.99 in bone stock trim depending on location, time of year (ie: temps/barometer) and how much you weigh personally.
Even in the summer time a Vararam cold air intake (I know you'd prefer to avoid that), a thermostat, tuning, low fuel levels (and no other extra items such as picnic coolers, gallons of water or boat anchors in the car) and a set of drag radials might still be enough to run an 11.99.

a set of BFG drag radials will work just fine. i worked for discount tire for 2 years.

as for cut out's, well the problem u run in to is u will need 2 tunes. one for full exhaust and one for cut out's. im not a tuner but worked at MTI for couple years and was going to do that to my dad's and my car. they make cut outs that are mechanic and open and close with switch in the car(summit mag.)

as for the cold air intake...well on the vette's there a little diff. than other cars. u know on other cars the long intake pipe that runs across the engine bay, then down behind headlight and stops infront of front tire. well the + to cold air is really an intake that sucks air from outside the engine bay(20-30hp diff). we have run black wing, the clear box, vararam, cyclone, and the calloway honker. and tested them ALL at drag strip, road race, and dyno with hood open, then closed.....long story short the honker was the ONLY intake where we saw improvement over all area's. if your intake sucks air from inside the engine bay you giving up 20-30hp thery are worth it.

look been there done than, built it raced it, built it again.......
1. cold air intake-personal preference Calloway honker
2.ported throttel body
3.BFG drag radials
4.u put a 3.73 or 3.90 it will really wake it up

and depends on stock tune some are hiding 30-50hp in tune alone.

My buddy Artie took delivery of an '08 Coupe auto with 2:73's 6 speed auto with the Z51 package with the performance exhaust several months ago.
He has a HP tuners tune, 160 thermostat, and Vararam. On the stock runflats he ran 11.94 @ 117.75 at Englishtown in good air.

So you should have no problems whatsoever going into the 11's with bolt ons.

11's with traction control on. Waiting to pull the trigger for drag radials and Mikey and Bob from M&B Performance to install my Cartek line lock. Good luck with your new toy.
