Default Results from my first time ever at a track

Island Dragway - Track Rental with a Mustang Club. Right lane prepped to the 1/8, left lane next to nothing.

Wow - what a day. My first run was my best one by far. I didn't even know where the 1/4 line was. I just rode 3rd to the limiter and coasted into 4th. What did that get me? First time ever at the track? How about 11.797 @ 122.76!

They only prepped the right lane and it was reserved for guys running D/R's or slicks. But that is where he put me. I launched at 2700 or so and the stars aligned perfectly for my very first run.

Now for the bad news: I couldn't touch 11's after that. They moved me to the left lane which just sucked ***. I either spun the crap out of the tires or bogged from trying to launch too low.

Here are the rest:

12.677@122.86 - first pass in the left lane and I spun like crazy. I have a vid of this pitiful run. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img002.jpg

12.030 @ 124.33 - bogged the launch, but not too badly (but bad enough) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img003.jpg

12.817 @ 120.93 - missed 2nd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img004.jpg

13.974 @ 73.99 - completely missed 3rd and went into 5th. Just coasted it out: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img005.jpg

12.176 @ 123.95 - ran against a blown GT Vert. We were neck and neck until the last part of the track: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img006.jpg

12.004 @ 123.35 - this should have been another 11 second pass. I hit the rev limiter in 2nd : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img007.jpg

12.695 @ 123.33 - this was against the guy who invited me (blown S197 GT making 435 or so rwhp). He treed me hard, I panicked and spun like a madman: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img008.jpg

12.336 @ 119.5 - hot lapped to race him again. I redeemed myself! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img009.jpg

12.299 @ 123.73 - last pass against some girl in a Foxbody Mustang. She ripped me out of the hole and then it was all over: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ips/img010.jpg
She did run a 12.7 or 12.8 at one point.

It was a great time and I can't wait to go again. I have to go to E*Town next. The track prep is 100 times better and I think I am going to pick up some drag radials.

All in all, I was semi-happy. The 11.7x run just set the bar way too high and I could never get back there - I should have begged them to put me back in the right lane.

Great time. With your speed through the traps, you will be in the low 11's on good tires.

They weren't low for those times. I recently ran an 11.66 quarter, trapping at 118.5. With your traps at 122, you could be in the mid to low 11's.

Fair point, but how in the world did the top guys trap 127+ bone stock?!

Better shift points, faster shifting, & MUCH better DA.
Hope my tips helped you some.

You did fine with that 1st run. You don't run that # by accident.
You need to get a mental image of what you did for that run & burn it in & work off that.

Were you heating your tires before your runs at all??

You need to shift FAST FAST FAST & as close to 7000 rpm as possible.

The weather won't be conducive to record times here in the NE again until the fall....so your 11.79 would likely have been an 11.49 @ 125 (or there abouts) in great air on a great run.

Look for a fall Atco rental.....

You will pick up .2-.7 at Etown or ATCO
I made about 50 passes in my C5 Z05 at Island and never went into the 11's. My first day at Etown I ran 11.57...
Island is a horrible track, but a good place to practice.
