I've been here for less than a year (since I bought the C5) but love this section. I see some familiar names now, looks like the die hard racers visit here rather than O/T and want to get to know what you drive and a little history.
I started bracket racing at 15 in 1985 two weeks after getting my license thanks to my older brother.
In the years that followed ran hopped up street cars such as 77T/A and about every body style of Mustang made.
In 1992 Built a nice 66 Chevy II, 468CI 2sp glide went 10.20s on 10" goodyears.
Got married in 1994, had a kid a year later and sold it at the wifes orders.
Stayed out of racing completely for a few years while raising the young ones. All money went to dancing, gymnastics, softball etc. But I had a 96 Cobra that I could take every now and then and make a few passes.
About 2 years ago my oldest Quit competition Dance and the youngest quit Gymnastics. (Freed up about 8K a year) lol
I decided then with the wifes blessing to go back to bracket racing. Decided I wanted to go fast but straight, something the Chevy II never did.
Bought a car almost turn key and finished it.
Gen6 454 decent bottom end, good valve train to turn some RPMs,Glide and so on. Geared for 32" tires and runs 8.70-8.80s but not as consistant. Put on 33.5"s and slowed it down to 9.20@140 and consistant. Not alot of $$$ in it but it is consistant and drives great.
Tell me your story and lets see pics/vids of your car.
Here is mine.
..... with the low-body, and the motor 'way-out' from the axle, could that have been a former Comp Eliminator car:
a buddy bought a Comp-car years ago, ran a pump-gas 350" SBC for his wife to drive that looked similar.
I began bracket-racing my '79 Z28 once-a-month, for trophies-only, in '81, but went to work for my father in '84, and parked the car until '90, when I began racing weekly at my local track outside Pittsburgh:
in '90 & '91, I won 9 races with 5 runner-ups, and a Class Championship in 53 starts, then I raced at an 1/8-mile strip in West-by-Gawd-Virjinny in '92 & '93, winning another 10 races with 4 r/u, and a Track Championship in 44 more events.
The Z28 runs a 10.3:1 pump-gas 355" SBC, THM400 w/ 8" converter, 4.11s spinning 28" x 10" EAGLES:
shifted and trapping at 5800 RPM, it runs 12.80s @ 105 MPH
In '94, I had Scott Weney build me a dragster and I sat-out the season, but served as Staging Lane Dircetor at W. Va.:
in '95 I got my license and ran the car a few times (the pump-gas 406 from the Z28 ran 5.90s @ 112 in the 1/8, but we never 'got-serious' with it, and it was intended for making license/shake-down runs ), but the visor fogging-up caused problems
and when my then-wife decided the car was 'causing-problems' in our marriage, it was sold after just 26 passes, and I quit racing cold-turkey.
(the dragster went to a friend, who won a dozen races & a Track Championship in 3 years with it, who sold it to a mutual friend/racer, who won 2 Track Championships & $20,000+ with it in 4 years:
he sold it to another racer in '06, and S&W chassis #2018W, circa 1994, has won 2 more races this season! )
My ex-wife left in '00, and when I met my fiancee in '02, she encouraged me to begin racing again, but I got-sick (mono-like symptoms? ), and spent the next year getting-better, yet we ran the Z28 (which sat in storage all that time ) 3 times in '03, with two 4th Round loses and a First Round Runner-Up -.001 foul-start, but I physically couldn't race in my condition, and the Z28 went back into storage again.
We spent '04 & '05 focusing on getting my house ready for-sale and a move to Florida (tracks-open 46 weeks-a-year, baby! ), and arrived September '06, where I am less-than 80 miles from Orlando Speed World Dragway and Bradenton Motorsports Park, 50 miles from Division 2 Champions Sunshine Dragstrip, and 3 hours from Moroso Motorsports Park and Gainesville Raceway:
after beating my head off the wall trying to bracket-race my inconsistent '82 Cross-Fire a half-dozen times in the RevXtreme Corvette Challenge Series @ BMP, I've parked it until my house is sold (freeing-up funds for a carbed-motor, THM400 and solid-axle swap - I'll also have the Z28 sent-here, too, when I find another house with garage-space ), and am helping run the Series @ BMP, taking-pictures, teaching rookies, writing stories, and generally getting-in-the-way.
I turn 48 next week (at the track! ), but I'd like to 'think' I am as-hungry, and as-capable, as-ever to win races again.

Hell I'm gonna be 65 in Nov. & forgot what I did, & what I didn't do.. how much is true & how deep the BS is about 12 yrs ago I raced a D/A with a partner.. When I retired I sold out my portion & now "TRY" to bracket race my 96 Vette (its almost stock) I never won a championship at the Corvette Challenge but have always finished in the Top 10 (big deal)
I can say I was beaten by David Nickens now how many of you guys can say that... Also I Beat Darrell Alderman.. it was a NHRA Event on Wed. for the media we were both driving 17 sec Chrysler K cars.. I treed him on a .400 pro tree... it was a fun day..
..... yeah..... but that was only-because his shop had been 'broken-into', and Chrysler 'couldn't make anymore of those blocks'.....
Yeah, that picture was taken on the Z28 in '03, and it probably has 4 years of dust sitting on it now:
I bought it new in October '78, and it has 27,000 original miles on it, while I am the 4th owner of the Corvette, and it, too, has 27,000 original miles.

I started my drag race career in 1965 at Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.....I raced a 1960 Dodge with a real hemi in it...I did not drag race in organized events again until 5 years ago...I bought my vette 6 years ago, been racing it for 5 years and it was my DD for about 4 years...in Sept. of 05 it became a cruise in/drag race only vette...
I have gone a bunch of rounds and won an event in it but I just love drag racing so I would be out there no matter what car I had...I have learned how to bracket race competitively and really enjoy it...I'm an old fart too (60) but I'll be racing untill I can't anymore...here is my ride..it is a 93 with 123,000 miles and the motor is stock, never been touched...

Raced the first time 8 years ago with a '69 Vert that I used to own (ran in the high 13's).. After that, I didn't race for 2 years. Started racing my blue/white '68 in 2002 and I'm still racing the same car.. Started racing the Corvette Challenge when we started having one.. Initially, I raced my '98 Vert (AT) which I owned at the time and went to the final of the first event that I raced and ended up winning the 2nd event that I've ever raced.. Later, I also raced a 6-speed '98 Vert and my '05 C6 6-speed Vert which I owned at the time.. Now I race both, my '68 (blue/white) and a '92 Coupe which I currently race as my race car is not ready for racing at the moment..
Started 3/8 mile NASCAR racing in 1980……1969 Torino
Then road racing and ¼……….raced my 68' Camaro 1st in 1980.... my high school car and still beat on it today
Still race it along with these toys.
I started racing my C4 Corvette in 2000. I started racing with the NMCA and NSCA in Hot Street. Now I race in local Super Street events.
The car runs 8.20s at 167mph.
It is a 440 small block, NATURALLY ASPIRATED, with a G-Force clutchless 5 speed transmission, and 10.5W tires. The car weighs about 2775 pounds with driver.
I believe that it is the fastest small block naturally aspirated car on 10.5 tires that is racing today. I also believe that it is the fastest naturally aspirated small block Corvette.

1991 Oldsmobile with a 7.5:1 compression naturally aspirated 327 Chevy motor. Runs 10.30s at 128 or so. It's built under pretty restrictive rules for NHRA and IHRA Super Stock. The other one is my uncle and my brother races a 95 Camaro in Stock. Fun family times.
