I was at the Nationals on Saturday and I happened to pass by the Screaming Eagle trailer and saw Eddie. So I stopped by to say hi. He shakes my hand and says "thanks", completely out of context of the conversation and looks away. I didn't expect him to kiss my ass or anything but we've seen each other a 100 of times at e-town so I thought he could have been more personable.
I hope I remember the "little people" when I go pro
Paul, remember that his job now and he under alot of pressure to do good and I'd bet he hasn't adjust to that yet.
the pressure at that level is unreal... especially between rounds.
Best bet for "face time" is after qualifying/eliminations when the pressure's off a little.
Funny story to relate to you.... I used to run a drag racer chat forum on AOL some years back, and one of our participants was Ron Capps, who I got to know pretty well albeit not face to face. Then at the Gators, I hung out with him in his trailer (he just started with Snake at that time), and we all had a good time.
Fast forward to Rockingham, where I was racing in S/ST (the Invitational was a non-point race for Pro's, points event for Sportsman). I'm walking the pits with a couple of friends and we look up Capps. He's busy signing handouts and gladhanding, etc. Without a much as a second glance, he autographs a handout, hands it to me and says "thanks", almost robotic..
I immediately hand it to my buddy, and say "What the hell do I want this for?". Capps then looks at me again, and recognizes me, and asks "What are you doing here?", to which I reply "Racing my car...what are YOU doing here?" we then both laugh and he apologizes to me for not recognizing me right off. I told him that I can relate...seeing so many people each and every day at the races, it can get a bit mind-numbing, to which he said "You have no idea..."
Something to consider before thinking you got "big-timed"...

Kind of like when I drove by you walking out of the woods by Etown & honked & waived & you didn't even crack a smile...
You got what you deserved...
