Default NHRA question

What can a conv. run with a 6 point rollbar? This is without a hardtop, just cloth and the bar.

If I'm not mistaken, you can as low as 10.00 but not faster than 135mph.

Sorry, guys. The fast limit is 13.50. At 13.49 you need a minimum 5 point roll bar. The rules are no different for a 6 point bar. At 13.49 you need an NHRA legal roll bar.

Maybe I should add more info to this. I purchased a conv. vette which has a 6 point roll bar in it now. It has the door bar with swing outs. I was told it is a NHRA legal bar, and I assume it is.
My understanding, without a roll bar was 13.49 for a conv. and 11.49 on a hardtop. Then, if a 6 point NHRA legal bar was added to a hardtop, it was good for 10.00 et.
Now, here is my question.
"Assuming" it is a "Legal 6 point NHRA bar" is it ok to go as low as 10.00 et with a conv?

No. Sorry, I answered a question you didn't ask, above. The roll bar that is legal to 10.00 in a coupe is only good down to 11.00 in a convertible. A convertible must have a roll cage to run 10.99 and faster.

NHRA has specs for a roll bar. One of the specs is that be a minimum of 5 points. A swing out door bar is allowed. NHRA also has rules as to what ETs and car configurations require a roll bar. Whether the bar is chromoly or mild steel, 5 point or 6 point, with or without a swing out door bar, does not change or extend where it is required. I don't question whether your bar is legal or not. I had HUA syndrome when I wrote my first answer. I addressed how fast you could be before a roll bar is needed. You wanted to know how fast before a roll cage is needed. The information you added wasn't necessary, but it did serve as a wake up call for me. Sorry about the first, and I hope this helps.

RACE ON!!!

On Converts, it's 10.99 / 135 mph. That or any quicker or faster and it's a Cage for you.

Correction: ...convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49.

Also in the roll cage section, coupes are given a break from the cage requirement between 10.00 and 10.99 if they are full bodied and have an unaltered firewall, floor and body. I have paraphrased, slightly, so see the 2007 NHRA Rulebook for details.

Thanks to everyone for all their help!!

I will add, I purchased a vette from fellow forum member "Bruce" which is the car I am refering too. It needs a little work, ie oil leaks, and the DFI system has not been tuned yet. It has a 383 and a rear mount 85mm turbo. Bruce made 544rwhp with a 14lb supercharger before going turbo, so the car has potiental. However it does have a stock diff, and a 6 speed, so those will limit the ET.
I have a hardtop from my other vette, but I do not know if it will clear the rollbar or not.

Again, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to answer my questions.
