Gary Combs and his silver 2003 C5 went five rounds to win event #6 of the 2007 West Coast Corvette Challenge against runner-up Mark Heekin in his 2000 C5 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the Jerry’s Nugget Championship Racing Series. The final had a .0672 margin of victory with Gary running a 14.091 on a 14.07 dial and Mark running a 13.856 on a 13.80 dial.
We had a half-hour of corvette only runs prior to final two time trials. The day started hot – in the low 100s, but cooled off as the evening wore on.
Cathy Wilson (2002 C5 corvette) was the semi-finalist today, with Mark Heekin moving into the finals with a bye run.
Jim Ferrin earned the Napa Auto Parts/LACR trophy for best first round reaction time with a .010 reaction time. James Ranney earned the closest to dial trophy with a 13.56 run on a 13.50 dial in.
Congratulations to first round winners Cathy Wilson, Clayton Brombers, Mike Sollis, Mark Heekin, Steven Bishop, Phil Reese, Henry Mynatt, Doug Carter, and Jim Ferrin
Thanks again to Las Vegas Corvettes Association and the LVMS crew. It’s always the highlight of the WCCC season.

Gary was spookily consistent -- exactly what it takes to win one of these things.
Overall, a very long and very hot day. We got back to the hotel about 1:30 am Sunday morning. For a track at a physical elevation of about 2,000 ft., the DA was about 5,000 ft until about 7:00 pm. But still, a very, very nice place to race.
The WCCC always enjoys drag racing (and lots of bench racing) with the Las Vegas folks.
I wish I could have made it . Trailer rental is expensive when you live on a fixed income. Also I was in Palm Springs hanging out by the pool. Next year if the WCCC is still around.
