I had a GT500 on order at MSRP since early 05'... Then the time comes to submit the order last year in April... and the price goes to $20k over. I told them to shove it. It was then that I began looking at the Z06. No regrets for sure... the Z06 is in another league!!

I agree. One is a supercar, the other just a Mustang with a blower.

If it weren't for FORD/CHRYSLER, CHEVROLET wouldn't market such a good product. Competition is good.
Now, if the Z had a solid spool...it'd be a better "drag" car. Luckily, it doesn't because it isn't.

BTW, back to topic. That 9's GT500 is amazing! I just cannot bear to look at its body style. It's horrible to look at in person, like a big blobb of pudding plastered on the ground. I would love to own one if it had the look from 2 gen ago (not found of the last gen style either). Those lines are classic.

Oh, BTW 2:
Those who spent $200,000+ on one of the first FGT's must be flaming mad. Because the next door neighbor's teen age kid bought a 35g mustang then swapped a pulley, viola!!! he's got a FGT beater.

I've baffled why the moderators let this thread stay here for more than 5 minutes. I posted a legit thread with pictures and impressions of my Z06 compared to my friends new viper and it stayed in this Z06 section for 1 day before getting moved to "other cars". This idiotic thread has been in the z06 section for WAY TOO long and has already shaded towards a flame thread and yet it's still in here? makes zero sense

Way to represent the Corvette community, if you can't handle watching a video of a Z06 losing maybe you shouldn't have clicked on the link.
The Mustang in this video has a STOCK gear and a STOCK suspension BTW. The only mods are a pulley, drag radials and a tune.
Some people on this forum are real car enthusiasts that would consider what this pony car can do with such minor modifications to be impressive.
If you're that close minded then just move on..
BTW, please show me a low 10 second Z06 with just a cam, headers and 4:10s. I wasn't aware that anyone did a gear swap in a C6 z with results, bench race much? Once again, no one said a GT500 is faster or a better car than a Z06.
Can't argue with that.
Read my post above. I posted the best times of both cars, both cars had average drivers behind the wheel. However the higher altitude effects the n/a Z06 more.

Amazing what gears will do for a heavy car.

Just in case you did not notice, the FGT prices are going North. Used is selling at more than original MSRP. BTW, my garage has GM, Ford and Chrysler. Like my children, they are all different and I like them all

Dude, get a clue, no one is impressed and we are enthusiasts. There are many reasons, but mainly that this is a sample of one contest, driver skills are unknown, the GT500 is modded (regardless of whether you deem them "minor" this renders the contest insignificant to any true enthusiast).
A GT500 is NOT even close to the same league as a Z06 stock for stock. It wasn't designed to be, we all know that. However, you can't deny the fact that the GT500 comes supercharged, and a pulley swap is the first mod tons of people did to their GT500s. A pullied GT500 is capable of running mid 11s @ 125mph+, that is certainly in the realm of what a stock Z06 runs.

You're still trying to defend your Z06. A true enthusiast doesn't render a race insignificant because both cars aren't identical.. A real car enthusaists knows it's run what ya brung.

Period. You just don't get it and keep trying to defend the car and tacitly compare its straight line performance to the Z06. Give it up!

Once again we all heard your opinion, still has nothing to do with two cars drag racing at a track. Regardless of what it is, this is how it performs in a straight-line. If you can't handle it then move on.

Oh, and by the way, the guy that drove that vert has been racing for a long time. Hes anexperienced drag racer. Probably the best driver over at the SVT forums.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this as long as this thread is...that is not a drag strip...a temporary make believe drag strip, maybe...no christmas tree, no water box I could see...no VHT I could see...I didn't see timers either...I did see a guy dropping his hands to start them...you call this a drag strip?...
For what it's worth, car guys have been fighting agout who is faster since the late 40's...chevy vs. ford and mopar, ford vs. chevy and mopar and mopar vs. chevy and ford...these battles have now moved to the internet, not surprisingly...I considered it fun back in the day and still do...
Lastly, the mustang guy says the Z06 ran a best of 12.99...that's laughable..there are boatloads of stock Z06's that run in the 11's all day long at drag strips, bone stock...we have C4's that run 12.99's stock for goodness sake...I find the whole post amusing...not factual but amusing...lol
