Default ET Street vs ET Street Radial

Which of these tires would better suit my traction needs.

Will not be driving to the track on the tires.

Car still has stock rear including half shafts.

I looked at your signature & you're probably right on the bubble...

A basic rule of thumb is up to about 400-420 RWHP, drag radials can suffice, above that the slicks are a better choice..

My question is this:
Is there a difference between the M/T ET Street and the M/T Drag Slick?
I was wondering if they were the same tire but the ET Street had grooves in it.

There's less of a chance of wheelhop on e.t. streets.

The ET Streets and the Drag Slicks use the same compound; the Streets have the minor groove and slightly stiffer sidewall to make them DOT legal.

Trying them both, I have had better results with the ET Street Radials.....I've been told the Street bias are quicker, but so far (at least for me) this has not been the case. The Radials use a stickier compound and hook easier. They also have less rolling resistance. (This is on a '69, running 11.6s in the 1/4.)

I forget who said it but they spoke to MT and MT said the bias play would be the better choice for the manual trans. I have both sets with the A4 and find the bias play a little more consistent.

Wheel hop is a big conern for the M6 and again, the bias with the softer walls tends to be better to proctect against wheel hope

I'm kind of searching for an answer on the radial/bias ply tires issue. How much of a problem is running MT ET streets (bias ply) with radials up front. Would tire pressure on the rears change anything? I am looking to reduce wheel hop problems.

Thanks,

Clayton from Las Vegas

I don't think changing FRONT tires will do anything for wheel hop. Wheel hop is more of a traction/driver's launch technique/track prep issue. If you don't want to break you'd better do your best to avoid wheel hop.

Edgar is right, bias ply tires (ET Streets) are going to work better on a manual transmission car.

LV Vette - I've found that bias in the back and radials in front cause handling problems. Increasing rear tire pressure isn't goin to solve the problem. Radials in back with bias in the front are O-K on the track.
