[photos] Vette-Viper racing at New England Dragway
Today was the big day. A total of 14 Vettes showed up, plus 3 Vipers. As usual, the Vipers had trouble coming anywhere close to their dial-ins. The only Viper to win a race did so because the Vette he ran against red-lighted. That Viper, of course, broke out in the second round. The winner was Ed White in his awesome supercharged C2. See his victory photo.
I took a lot of photos and put them up here. It's a very simple page - no thumbnails, just links to the photos. Enjoy.
By the way, your faithful scribe (that is, me) had the honor of winning second place. It's the first trophy I've ever won, so if I seem unduly proud, that's why.
I had a look at my time slips today. Although I wasn't setting any personal bests, my car was amazingly consistent.
I had 6 runs in all - 2 time trials and 4 competitive runs. Out of these 6 runs, the total spread between the fastest and slowest runs was just 0.075 seconds. Most of that spread was due to changing density altitude during the day. If you eliminate the two slowest runs during the heat of the afternoon, the remaining 4 run times spanned a mere 0.017 seconds!
I lost the final race because I red-lighted. It was a red light by a mere 0.015 seconds. Such is the margin of victory and defeat.
As everybody knows, the secret to success in bracket racing is a consistent car and a consistent reaction time at the lights. I have one of these...

Sound of car clearing her throat here.
