I was told that when NHRA gave Maple Grove Raceway the Keystones in '85, the Lewis family was permitted to pick from a variety of available dates (NHRA only ran approx 13-15 National Events in those days ):
after careful scrutiny of weather records over 100 years, it was learned that 2 weeks after Labor Day had traditionally been THE least-likely chance of rain, yet the Castrol/Sunoco/Pioneer/Toyo Nationals have been plauged since their inception by foul weather.....

It seems to rain or snow 3-6 days per week here in northeast pa. I am suprised that they get as many races in as they do.
My local track, Numidia Dragway loses 35-40% of the days they are scheduled due to rain.

Two years ago it was the same thing.........rained and rained and rained. Maybe with the change next year to August, it'll be diffferent.......Dry, and hot, but different. As many years as we've gone, it always seems to be cooler that weekend, but unfortunately, also wetter some years! We drove all the way up there to be turned around at the gate.....even called on the way up and were told that they were open, but on a delay.
Oh, well......another 3 hour drive up in two weeks! It's worth it!
