Default Back from the track!

I accidently posted this in the wrong forum

Had a good time at the track yesterday

The weather was nice (59 degrees with baro of 30.1) but there was a fairly strong headwind (~15mph)

DA was ~800 feet

Here is how I ran the car:

32 psi in the rears (runflats)
39 psi in the fronts
traction control off
Car in "D"

Mods:
TCI 3000 stall
TPIS headers
Halltech Stinger
stock 2.73 gears
160 stat
Stock Goodyear runcraps at 32psi

St. Thomas didn't have ANY VHT to put down. (They havent BOUGHT any yet)

Traction was a BITCH but it sure was FUN!

For all runs I was forced to launch off idle and feather the throttle. (spun all the way into second gear at ~60mph)

Best run of the day (feathering the gas)

sixty: 2.226
330: 5.779
1/4 ET 13.07 (So close to 12's first time out)
1/4 mph 110.0

Ran a couple 13.0s 13.1s, 13.2s all around 109-110mph

Traction was so bad I left the track to fill up the tank with gas and come back halfway through the day.

(Taner offered to jump in the hatch but I didn't think the tech staff would allow it LOL!)

Anyways, it was a great day. With DRs, a mild 1.80 sixty and no headwind I think ~12.4's at ~112mph will be possible.

That wont be too bad for a couple of boltons

Chris

ps- My wife was so afraid I was going to put the car in the wall that she said I can buy drag radials

Chris, excellent write. Very informative. Glad you had a good day. You quickly found out if you go big converter, you will need drag radials.

I agree low 12s with the drag radials.

Mickey Thopson or BFG drag radials work best

Thanks Redgar

It was a fun yet slightly frustrating day

I am leaning towards the ET street radials on a 17 inch rim at the moment.

Been looking at rims but most of the repro offerings are so heavy. I have set a rule for the car that anything I take off the car must be replaced with something lighter

I'll hopefully have DR's on the car for next weekend and will post back with results

Have you ruled out using a stock C5 wheel?

Front 17" as to be lighter then stock 18".

I was actually considering picking up a set of front wagon wheels cheap but will be looking at new rims eventually.

Maybe I can find six painted 00+ wheels (two 18 and four 17's)

I had an 01 A4 with a Yank 3000 and LT headers, I ran about 24lbs in my runflats...helped a little. Got 1.9 - 2.0 60ft. and 12.4-5 range....good luck.
