Luckily the driver made it out ok, and I think a few of the guys bought him a beer of two (maybe more)! Sad day considering he is one of the few vettes at our track! At least the driver is ok! Sad looking car though. . .

Made me sick just looking at it.

What do you suppose caused it, a lean condition??

Hopefully his insurance will pick up the cost, but it is doubtful considering how many of them operate.

This is one of the reasons why I won't run nitrous.

Wet nitrous systems that are sprayed right off the line are dangerous that way. I too have seen the same thing happen. The more common drag racing mistake that I have seen is that when new guys get out of the groove they try to "save" the run and stay on the throttle - only to slam into the guardrail.

Drag racing still remains the safest of motorsports. A good nitrous setup should include various safety shutdown switches, and an underhood fire supression system.

I've seen that. I felt really empty afterwords, 'cause the damage was very high(to the car and to his wallet).

It's not just the nitrous that did this..but that stuff spooks me for this reason. I have seen nitrous fires before and it's a pretty tough thing to sit and wait for the safety safari to put your car out....then to repair it if you could.
