Default Converting to manual.....

brakes.

With my new cam my motor is only pulling about 4.5" of vacuum. This is not enough to properly get the brakes to work in my 89 vette.

Has anyone gone to manual brakes in their cars?

I hate to hook up a vacuum pump for a few hundred dollars....Figure manual, can't be any worse than the way they are now.

Any thought or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I'm surprised that with 251 @ .050 your only pulling 4.5" of vacuum with 434". My cam has 4 degrees less seat duration and [9I-3E] degrees less .050 duration and I have a steady 12" of vacuum.

Do they make a hydro-boost for the C4's, that would take care of your braking problem.

Sorry, That cam in the signiture needs updated the the new one. The new one is 296/302 264/272@.050 .650 lift on a 108 lsa in at 104 Sounds awesome and actually does not have that bad of manners, other than there is NO vacuum.

I will take a look at some of these items you guys...thanks.

Jesse,

I helped Phil(wheelsup) convert his, make sure you move the pivot point for the rod up to increase the pedal ratio. If you don't you'll have a really hard pedal requiring lots of effort. BTW, I'm still using the PBs even tho the vacuum is about the same as yours. Went out yesterday for the first time, hadn't touched the engine other than an oil change, running last years pump gas, had some traction issues due to a 4-link change, but it managed to go 10.09 @ 133.65 so there's hope.

Catch ya' later,
Dave

Awesome Times! Good to hear the car is running well for you. Garsh those 9s are just right there. Go take it.

Been hashing the conversion over and think it might just be easier to put the vacuum pump that dad has on his on mine for a few hours and try them out. If it works, the pump is only 250, and can be hooked up in a few moments.

Just got the 1/2 shaft replaced that I twisted to ablivia last time out. Lots of tweaking to get this new setup dialed in.

Totally different. Only went 10.7@128, leaned it out and it slowed down, then I put the fuel to it and it felt much better during the burnout and stuff. Launched and it mangled the 1/2 shaft with the front in the air and it sent me zipping to the side!

WE'll have to see what the future hold - looking like a solid setup, but I hate to keep sinking money. Might be easier to just buy a 1/2 backed car, take the motor adn trans and put it in there, put together a good 383 for the vette for the street and have fun with something that is not going to break and if something bad would happen, you woudln't be real upset iwth it.

WE'll see.

Sneaking up on the 9s, today I went 10.01 @ 133.78, maybe next week Best 60' was a 1.33, if I could have had that 1.29 again it would have been Big Smiley Time !

Dave

how much do you weigh? perhaps a lighter driver will make the 9's.

10.01...I'm tellin' ya, bring it to e-town capped up, and bracket race it. That thing's consistent!

Jesse, I'm not hijacking your thread with Dave here
