I just got my car through the PA emissions inspection today. ECS went with a Z06 cam in my old 382 to keep it mild enough to get through! Thanks guys.
Now I want replace my old heads with AFR 225s and a meatier bump stick which will put the car over 700RWHP and replace the 390s that are whining back to 342s. Some daily driver
I am assuming that as long as I put less than 5k miles on it I am exempt from the emissions test and only have to do the safety test.
Can I get some confirmations on this? Also, can I do it year after year. So lets say I drive 4K this year and I get an exemption for 2006. Then I drive it another 4000 in 06 can I get an exemption for 2007? Thanks!

As long as you stay under 5000 miles each year you are exempt from the emission test that year. You still have to get an exempt sticker each year. It does not matter how many years as long as you stay under the 5000 miles between yearly inspections. I haven't had to go through the emissions test for the last 7 or 8 years.
That is a good law.....heck if you're not driving over 5K a year, you can't be poluting too much. Makes sense.......which is unusual for an emissions law.
For us in Luzerne County under 5000 miles they don't check anything but the normal safty items and you get a Exempt sticker.
It doesn't matter where you live in the state, if you are under 5000 miles every year you get an exempt sticker. I'm in Philly and I've been exempt every year for the last 7 years.
The only thing I'll add is that I believe the car would still have to pass a visual check (ie: cats in place, EGR in place, etc).
It depends on where you take it for inspection. As of right now, I was told that the state of PA doesn't require a visual check. The only time you may run into a problem is if the car is too loud. They may do a visual check then.
Hi Alan, glad to see your beast coming into shape. When is the next rental?
My car always has less than 5,000 miles on it at inspection time.
You will have to pay $30 for an exempt sticker, they will still put it on the machine and also test yours gas cap, even thought you are exempt they need the readings for their records.
The actual inspection requires a visual check, you should have no problem finding a decent shop that will overlook the missing cats. Even though the car is exempt the inspection can fail without cats, makes no sense but thats the way it is. Been there, done that.
