Just bought Maisto '96 GS Coupe - not impressed.

I wasn't expecting AUTOart quality, but the paint doesn't even completly cover under the hood or in the doorsills. Is this typical for all the GS's? The seats are early C4, but that's pretty minor. I'm going back to the store where I got it to see if the same paint flaws exist on the other one they had in stock. Any feedback from others who have bought this model?

I haven't taken mine out of the box yet, but your description of the paint under the hood is very typical of Maisto diecasts. Like you said, you can't expect AA quality considering AA diecasts cost around $40-$60 and the Maisto is about $9-$14. You can't even compare the two. In my opinion, Maisto's are meant to be enjoyed while they sit on display rather than under close examination.

Some conversation on a thread posted a while ago. The red fender stripes on some are mounted poorly and are not the correct angle.

It turned out the other GS at the store had a better paint job, so I exchanged the first one. It's still not perfect - paint is a little thin in places under the hood, but at least there are no totally bare spots. :rolleyes:

Actually, for a $10 toy, it's not too bad. I'm just frustrated that there's nothing better available. :( This is the first C4 I've bought for that very reason, and I started collecting almost 2 years ago. If Miasto ever makes a '96 CE coupe, I'll buy 2 - otherwise this is probably also the last C4 I'll buy :(

Your not obsessed yet then. I have three versions of this car. The painted stripe and sticker stripe and the lesser vert versions now reside in my house. I need the better vert version, but will likely never add it because of the costs now.

I'm just obsessed on a budget. :) Limited resources and limited places to put more cars has slowed my buying considerably.

That could be a looong wait! There doesn't seem to be much manufacturer interest in C4's :(
