Re: I think I want to start a new hobby (Kevin McGrade)
Kits in this order:
1.Monogram/Revell (same company)
2.AMT /Ertl
Monogram is probably the best for Corvette models. AMT/Ertl is OK , but the parts never seem to fit right & sometimes don't have as much detail as Monogram kits. Maybe AMT/Ertl has changed, but I doubt it.
Tamiya kits are the best out there, but are usually twice as expensive as a Monogram/Revell , AMT/Ertl kits. They are worth it though, not sure if Tamiya makes any vettes though.
Re: I think I want to start a new hobby (Kevin McGrade)
I've been building Vette models since the 70's, from 1/24 up to 1/8, and in my opinion Monogram is still the best. The scale, proportions, fit and finish, and the overall quality outdo any others. You can still find a lot of the old ones at shows, on Ebay, etc. The first model I ever built was the Monogram California Street Vette, and it's still one of my favorites! By the way, I'm glad to see someone want to start building models. It seems the hobby has faded with the advent of diecast cars and "pre-painted" kits.

Gotta agree...Monogram/Revell kits are the best. Seems that kits from any other manufacturer all have SOMETHING in every kit that needs modifications to fit.
Re: I think I want to start a new hobby (Alchemist)
If you want to build one for every year, you will have to get some old original kits that were never reissued by AMT and MPC. AMT is bringing out several new model kits. Hopefully they will producte one for every year. :yesnod:

Thank you all for the responses. I picked up the Revell 2001 Zo6 (kit #85-2588)
I started painting it last night but I am not going with the standard kit color of red and instead I am going with Electron blue metallic(or as close as I can get).

I would agree with all here that monogram kits are best for Corvettes. Keep in mind when you are looking for model kits that most manufacturers are making 2 or 3 skill levels of kits now. Obviously, the higher the skill level, the more detail and finish you will get.
I don't know what paint you are using, but I would suggest Model Master from Testor. They have nearly every color imaginable(even if it is not the name you are looking for), but you will have to find a good hobby shop to get a good selection of colors.
