This year three new 1/24 scale die cast Indy pace cars were released under the Johnny Lightning name. This year's cars are the 1978 Corvette, 1998 Corvette, and 1964 Mustang, and they are talking about releasing three more next year. I have been talking directly with Radius Licensing, the company responsible for determining which cars are produced, and have been strongly encouraging them to make a model of the 1986 Corvette pace car, which has only been done twice to my knowledge -- once by Franklin Mint and once by Majorette in the late 80's (which was more of a toy than a collectible).
I am also conducting a survey on which Indy pace cars people would like to see made as diecast replicas, which you can access at http://www.votations.com/asp/survey.asp?pollid=57334 or through a link at indypacecars.com. I'll be sending the results to Radius and Playing Mantis, as well as Exact Detail and some others. So please stop by and vote!
Re: Pace car fans, make your voices heard! (Indypacecars)
C'mon guys, this poll was posted to a Fiero message board and they are BLOWING THE CORVETTE AWAY! Over 20 first-place votes for the Fiero??? We can do better than that, right?
:smash:
Re: Pace car fans, make your voices heard! (Indypacecars)
Alright, I just voted too, but there are only 8 votes for the '86 vette. That means only 7 others have voted too. We need to spread this poll to other forums. How about the C4 fourm. Can someone link this post ?
Re: Pace car fans, make your voices heard! (Indypacecars)
I did my part , But only 10 for the 1986 , Come on guys!!! I can't believe the Fiero guys out number us  I know any collector would love to have all 5 Vette Pace Cars.

Re: Pace car fans, make your voices heard! (Indypacecars)
I cast mine for the 86. Just so everyone knows the following have been done in 1/18:
1955 Bel Air (Ertl)
1969 Camaro (Ertl)
1970 Olds 442 (Lane)
1978 Corvette (UT/AutoArt)
1994 Mustang Cobra (Maisto)
1995 Corvette (Maisto)
1996 Viper GTS (Maisto, the Burago did not have the decals)
1998 Corvette (Maisto)
1999 Monte Carlo (Sunstar)
Soon to be released:
1971 Challenger (Ertl by Backyard Conversions)
1972 Olds H/O (Lane)
2003 Corvette (Ertl)
The mold is there for the 81 Buick Regal but I have not heard any plans for one yet. GMP has made 1982-1987 Regals and GN's.
There is the possibility I missed some. There was a 63 T-Bird (Anson) posing as a 61 but I don't count it because the wrong year model was represented as something it was not.
Re: Pace car fans, make your voices heard! (3XBlack)
Corrections and additions to your list:
1964 1/2 Mustang (Revell)
1973 Cadillac Eldorado (Anson)
1982 Camaro (Sunstar)
The 1994 Mustang was done by Jouef, not Maisto (at least I have never seen one).
Also expected next year (based on pre-release molds) is the 1967 Camaro from Lane Exact Detail. I had not heard about the 72 H/O.
Oh by the way, I own all of these except the '78 Corvette, which I haven't been able to locate yet at a good price. I may have to break down and pay $45-$50 for it.
One last thing... the Johnny Lightning cars are 1/24 scale, which is most likely what this survey will help to influence.
