I went to the local toys r us store looking for the 62 satin silver vette today and found 2 unusual 1:18 Ertls , a 61 in Fawn Beige #36833 and a 67 Coupe that almost looks like primer (Gray). I haven't seen either of these listed anywhere. I bought the 61 ($22.99) to make it #70 in my collection.I wasn't so thrilled with the 67 but may have to go back and get one anyway.
This is not a very good picture but the best I can do at this time.
Jeff: I'll see if they have any left tomorrow and let you know. I think the 61 coupe was the only one left and the 67 there were 2 on the shelf but maybe they have more in the back room. I'll let you know by e-mail when I get home.
Went back and got the 67 Blue gray Coupe I'll post picture although it's not a good picture. This is like a Steel Blue or a light blue with a grayish tint.
A "Chase Car" is just a short packed (read "hard to find") item that the manufacturer randomly inserts in cases. With diecasts they're usually painted differently then the more common ones.....in this case it was gold, but sometimes they're chrome, or even bare metal, and they cost the same as the other common cars in the case. As for value, they're only worth what someone's willing to pay for it, however they typically do sell for more on the secondary-market.
After reading this thread a few days ago, I went to two different TRU's today and managed to come away with 5 different Ertl vettes from this new 50th collection. I got the gold '67, gray '67, fawn beige '61, white '53, mag red '03. Caution!! 53 and 03 where $39.99 each.
Luckily though, the gal at the counter was nice enough to hand me a $10 off coupon for a purchase of $75 or more....picked up 5 display cases as well for all of them.
I couldn't believe I found the gold '67. Now, the '53 is listed on the box as 1 of 7500 and the '03 as 1 of 10,000. They each come with some tool boxes in the carton as well. Odd........
Not a bad day searching....but an expensive one.
