Default Diecast owners.....do you keep the boxes?

For all of the 1:18 diecast cars that I have bought new, I have kept the boxes even if the cars are on display. I have boxes of empty boxes in the attic to keep so in the event we move or I decide to sell a car it can be shipped in the safety of it's original box. Now I have bought a few cars off eBay that did not come in boxes and it really didn't affect my decision to get the cars.

So does anyone else have tons of empty boxes stored for their displayed cars or am I being a tad bit OCD to keep them all?

YES...I save ALL the boxes from my 1:18's. Also...when "HILL's" stores closed down, I went to a local one and bought the racks and holders(?) for my 1:64 "Johnny Lightning's", "ME2's", etc. that still remain in their original packaging and are displayed on them.
Friends of mine were big into selling the empty boxes for LIONEL trains & accessories on "flea-bay"; said the boxes brought as much $$ as the train cars would go for.

Original packaging, boxes are a MUST to keep IMO. So...No I don't think your being OCD. My entire collection is all boxed. I've bought a few "loose" ones as duplicates but, if I buy one that's in the original packaging, it stays in the box.

I have over 4000 models and keep the boxes! If space is a concern, in truth there is no point in saving boxes for the likes of Maisto or Burago. You are never going to get rich selling them. On the other hand you should save them for Exoto, CMC, BBR, etc.

Hope this helps.

I have about 160 diecast vehicles in my collection, and have the boxes for each.

I have a large collection. Have kept most boxes. Also collect cast airplanes. The boxes will almost double your value.

Well, it's apparent that most serious collectors recommend keeping the boxes. I totally agree - to a point.

I might argue though that the more exclusive the model - eg Exoto, Kyosho. Autoart - the more important to save the box. In fact, don;t even take the model out of the box and put it where it's going to get dusty.

If it's simply something you picked up at Costco, like a Maisto model, then it probably doesn't matter. It's to a large degree a matter of space. After all the boxes are larger than the models they contain and you'll quickly run out of room.

As much of a pain it is to keep, it can make or break the value of a model. So Ive been stashing mine in the attic for 15 years.

Nope. I trash the boxes and put the cars on shelves so I can look at them. I bought my cars for me not for investment.
