FYI, when I received my '98 pace car models from the Indy speedway gift shop, I also recieved a 2002 merchandise catalog. In it they list (but do not picture of course) the 2002 Corvette pace car model. They list a 1/64 scale and 1/24 scale to be available 5/02 and a 1/18 scale model to be available 8/02. The 1/64 is most certainly going to be a Johnny Lightning. The 1/24 scale is listed as an IMS exclusive... I'm not sure if it will be die cast, a promo model, or a plastic kit. The preorder price of the 1/18 scale model is $79.00, so that means it's certainly NOT Maisto and it's not Exact Detail (since they sell the '72 Olds for $120). UT perhaps? I am going to call the gift shop tomorrow and see if I can get more info.
I read the same thing and was wondering who is going to make it. Maybe Ertl since they are licensed to do a 2003 but they are only listing the Black Oct. release,Red July release and June Maroon release. And all 24K Gold releases have been cancelled. Kinda makes ya wonder, Don't it. Can't wait for this one.

I think it's going to be an Ertl, and if it's an $80 Ertl it won't be joining my collection. It looks like the 50th Anniv. is going to be a dark red, so that's probably Ertl's June release.

You could be right , but considering they were charging $32 fot the Maisto 1998 which could be had for $9.99 at Sams Club you will probably be able to get it from a hobby dealer for $40 or less. They are listing the June release Maroon for $37.95 ( Could this be it?)
I just spoke to Dale in the IMS giftshop and he said that the pace car (and the diecast models) would be unveiled tomorrow. He said tomorrow he could tell me who is making the 1/18 scale model of the 2002 pace car. So I will check with him tomorrow and let everyone know! I will also have photos (or at least links to photos) of the pace car on my website tomorrow.
Speaking of diecasts from the IMS gift shop, I also noticed that they list in their catalog 1/24 scale models of the '78 and '98 Corvettes (and also the '64 and '94 Mustangs). Dale said they are metal, not plastic promos, but didn't know the manufacturer offhand (he said it varied). Does anyone out there know?
Thanks for the update Marc, Keep us posted. If you find a dealer other than IMS that is selling cheaper , post that when it is availible.
Well I do know somewhere that will be selling the diecast pace cars for less than IMS, as soon as they are available. However, the forum rules prohibit me from mentioning this site because I'm not a registered vendor. (Hint: look down!)
