I had this one under wraps for a little while, but I think I can finally share some progress. As many of you know, I have always stuck with the Tri-Power set up, but after researching the L-88`s and unique they are, I decided to give it a try. I`ll spare the background on these rare cars, since I am sure you guys already know the history.
The air cleaner set up was a real challenge, but I think I am finally satisfied with it. Basically, what you see is peice of kit plastic, cut and sanded, heated until soft and then bent/formed, putty and then sand, putty and then sand some more, then a bunch of coats of primer and black laquer. It took forever to get the contours convincing. I also found this foam at work that is very dense, and is very convincing for 1/12 scale foam.
I have alot of painting to do on the engine yet like hose and wire "lettering", and the usual text on belts.
The chassis has the usual chalk marks, and as you can see, whoever marked this one was on his first day apparently, as he specified 0 shims, and someone had to correct him and specified 2. Can`t decide if I am going to keep that on there on not...not sure if I like that.
I also have the interior started. It was really tricky removing the radio detail, but I have that finished and hopefully will have pics up shortly.
All in all I think this will be a very unusual build. I don`t know of any large scale coupe L-88`s in die cast or kit form, and in all my year of modeling (almost 30 now), I have never seen this kit converted to an L-88.
Let me know what you think.
Very nice work as usual! The only large scale 67 L-88's I've seen are the Franklin Mint 1/12 67 convertibles. What color are you going to paint this car? Have you built any of the 1/8 monogram 65 Vettes?

Im keeping the color under wraps for right now, but I will say it`s a very rare combination. I am going to post pics of the body once I get it polished out.
Haven`t built the 1/8 kit yet....they`re a little hard to come by. I always thought the proportions looked a little off on that one? I would like to try one someday though. I do have the `85 vette, as well as the IROC, Turbo Trans Am, and the `79 Trans Am kits in 1/8.
Here are some pics of the chassis....just some touching up to do. I tried to add all the labels, chassis markings, etc. I also textured the fiberglass spare tire compartment a little bit which is a first for me. It looks pretty convincing in person.
I see that there is a photoetch detail kit on evilbay for the monogram 67 1/12 Corvette and 1/12 69 Z-28. Search under models & kits for "Detail Set RMX" to see all the photoetch sets they have for many models. Have you seen or used them on any of your models? I plan on building the 67 Vette this winter and was wondering if they are worth it.

Years ago I made a set of 1/12 '69 Yenko Camaros and I used those photo-etch sets on them with good results. I've never used photo-etch details much, but those seemed to be very good quality and much better than using decals.
Got the interior pretty much done on this. The radio has been correctly removed from the dash, which was a whole lot of fun, trying carefully to not damage the surrounding plastic. I must`ve sanded then primered about 5 times to get it perfect.
OK guys...I can finally post pics of the exterior. It looks as though this one will be making it to eBay after all, as I don`t have a buyer for this one now. I actually just finished building it, just trying to find a set of rallye wheels to put on it (I am going give the option of the turbine or the rallye wheels to whoever buys this one).
I have to first apologize for my camera, or my photography skills, whatever the case may be. In real life, the blue on the stinger is much more blue than in the pictures. For some reason, I cannot get the color to record correctly.
Anyway, I wanted to build the rarest combination possible, and I believe there was only one L-88 built in this color combination. I think this is definitely going to be a one-of-a-kind build.
Let me know what you think.
