Care n Cleaning of your 1:18 scale Diecast collection
When cleaning your 1:18 scale diecast cars how do you clean them? Usually it is the dust that is stuck to the car.
I have heard some people use an oily rag, or just plain microfiber to using Nu-Finish.lllllllllll

This topic comes up quite often in the diecast hobby and although one would think it is the same as taking care of your daily driver. However, it is not quite the same. A very good friend of mine who has been active in the diecast industry for many years and an avid modeler since he was young has written many articles and books about Modeling and Die Cast Hygiene. The link below was written by George Bojaciuk (owner of GSB Design Concepts...a diecast consultant to manufactures) and is very to the point about Die Cast Hygiene. Although GMP's diecast car kit is advertised, the products are standard Meguiar's products...but probably one of the best in the business for diecast cars.
Also, here is another article that everybody that collects diecast cars needs to read. Written by Joe Kelly Jr., Joe gets into some heavy metal in this one! Joe is another writer for Toy Cars and Models Magazine with his column "Route 118" where he writes about 1/18th scale diecast car, trucks and the occassional aircraft. Joe has been a good friend of mine for many years.
Meguires Instant Detailer and a cosmetic makup brush for removing the interior and exterior dust.
The interior is the other 50% of cleaning I could spend at least one hour per car if not more to do both interior and exterior because it is so detailed.
I have a couple of cars that are not in a case and I just used car wax. Seems to make it easier to dust later on. After all it is just paint.
I used to use Nu-Finish and Q-tips for interior. Used 303 for the tires. Perhaps now I will consider just wiping them down with microfiber towels only now to speed up the process. Even the ones I have in curio cabinets still manage to get dust just not as bad as the others out on display.
A vendor selling 1:24 cars told me he just uses a silicone rag to wipe down the cars clean.

I also use a wax (zylinol) then detail w/ear swabs, then (ha ha) armor all the tires, and bingo!
back int the display box.
BTW- I notice the plastic they use to secure the doors etc. leaves a faint mark in the paint (I take these off), and the wax gets rid of this.
Hey! corvette pilot -
Which Is YOUR favourite model ?

Yes the straps leave marks and after a long period of time who knows
Alot of collectors keep the car in the box with straps in hopes of selling it at a higher price later.
We just bought a new house and the great room downstairs is now known as the "Corvette" room It will hang over hubby's plasma.
If anyone wants to make one PM me and I'll help you out...

Well make sure as to not show it to anyone that works at Parker Bros. They might steal your idea and make a killing on it. It's a beautiful display.
I"ve had several people ask me to make them one.. harley's etc. I'd love to do it however the shipping scares me big time and unless the hubby can learn to make shadow box frames, they are a budget buster!
