Read information that Franklin Mint will be releasing a 1/24 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car in late Spring/early Summer this year. It will be a limited edition of 7500. Anyone else heard about this or have better information?
Time to start nit-pickin'! Black t-tops? Black seats? The rear spoiler looks goofy, and the quarterpanel wing decal is too low. On a car like that, they really should get it right or not do it at all.

I agree with you. According to that picture, it doesn't look accurate. Any chance that picture is inaccurate?
It does look like they didn't put in enough thought to detail. If this is the final design then FM is getting sloppy.Kind of like the 78 silver anny. They didn't make the T-tops removeable.I thought that was strange.Maybe this picture is a pre-production,prototype.I know FM USED to get the actual car and go from there, you can sure tell they didn't with this one. However, is there some way of preording.I went to FM web site and didn't find anything on this model.Never mind,I found the preorder from the web site.
I'll forgive them on the '78 SA, that's a 16-year-old mold, not that they couldn't have done it right back then. But I'm sure they could've made the tops removable on this one. They're probably trying so save money by using an existing mold, and since the car will sell out anyway even with these flaws, what do they care? Why put extra effort and money into something everyone will buy anyway? Not a good way to treat your customers, but if the customers don't care, why should they? After all, like I've said before, it's all about the Benjamins!
I called FM this morning and was told that they won't be accepting pre-orders for a couple of weeks.I did pre-order one from that web site with the picture.I don't want to miss the boat
I may be wrong but the pictures used on the diecast.org website appear to be of the 1/24 diecast sold direct on the indy500 website store. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is, maybe Greenlight. I think they are just using the picture to illustrate a '78 Pace Car but that is just my opinion/observation. A Franklin Mint rep told me that there are no pictures available yet. Hopefully FM will be better than the one shown.

No, those pics are definitely the FM version, you can tell by the wheels. I've seen several shots of it now. The Greenlight is a horrible, toylike version, and doesn't even come with spoilers...

I called Tuesday and was able to pre-order mine !
Seeing I also have the UT 1:18 I am getting this one on speculation.
Hope it works out better than the 98 pace car !
