FS '78 Indy 500 Pace Car L-82 4 speed 32K miles
**** NO LONGER FOR SALE ****
1978 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car. One of 220 L-82 four speed cars. Just under 32,000 actual miles. Matching numbers original engine. All available options: FE7 Gymkhana suspension, AM/FM/CB radio, M-21 four speed, 3.70 rear gears, plus all the standard Pace Car options. Fully documented. This is a true investment quality Corvette than can still be driven and enjoyed regularly... the best of both worlds.
This car is the real deal. It is VIN 1Z8748S904192, sold new at Fritchey Chevrolet in Seneca, Missouri. The car comes with a large stack of documentation including the original window sticker, the dealer order sheet, the build sheet, selling paperwork, manuals, old inspections and registrations, 1978 Corvette News magazines, lots of service receipts, old articles, etc. Even has the original shipping waybill from Complete Auto Transport from when the car was shipped from the factory in St. Louis to the dealer, signed by the original purchaser after pre-delivery inspection. Factory sheets showing decal placement and CB microphone placement. Paperwork shows the complete owner history from new.
Excellent condition with minor wear and patina consistent with the car's age and mileage. From the condition and the way the all the previous owners kept all the paperwork, it's obvious that this Pace Car has always been well loved. I believe the car has always been garaged. The car has never been hit or painted; the original paint has minor lacquer cracking in a couple places and the bonding strips are slightly visible, which is typical for original paint cars of this vintage. The paint looks very nice. Bumpers are excellent and not wavy. The documentation shows that the decals were not installed by the original owner but by the second or third owner (I don't remember which). The interior is in excellent original condition. Very clean dry frame with NO RUST in the frame or birdcage.
The previous owner installed Edelbrock intake, carb, valve covers, and air cleaner, and removed the AC compressor, condenser, and hoses. He also installed coated headers and Magnaflow exhaust. It runs and sounds great but these parts are not original. I DO have the original intake, carb, valve covers, fan and fan clutch and the original Goodyear GT Radial tires and T-top bags. I'm working on getting the rest of the parts to put the car back to stock and have already sourced most of them through a forum member. Fortunately these parts are not terribly difficult to find, and it will not be hard to put the car back if that's the direction the next owner decides to go. The car DOES have its original numbers matching engine.
The car runs and drives great. Front end was recently rebuilt, probably due to deteriorated bushings. Newer brake calipers.
Asking price $27,500. REDUCED PRICE $21,000 Located in Albuquerque, NM.
And now for the pictures...

Now on ebay. The reserve is more than $6,000 below my asking price! If you've ever thought about owning an L-82 4-speed Pace Car, you won't find one of this quality for less.

Nice car hope you can get what you want for it. I recently saw one fixed up real nice at Fast Lanes in St Charles near St Louis for $25 or $26K. It had fresh paint and nice interior but engine was bone stock and had no detailing at all. Well kept with fairly low miles. I think these are the high mark in sales prices for C3's or could be LT1's are higher. I'm interested in them but not to buy at the moment or near future.

Thanks guys! It's a nice car... drives great, and the paint is nicer than the pictures show. Black just doesn't photograph well in the desert summer sun! I wish I could keep it.
