1971 Convertible
SOLD
SOLD
This 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is what I would call a garage find. A friend of mine inherited this car from her father who owned it since the mid seventies. He repainted it in the 1990's and redid the soft top (both still in great condition).
It has the factory, vinyl hard top. A rare option.
He rebuilt the engine and went through the mechanicals before handing the car down. After thoroughly going through the car it mostly sat under a cover in a garage. In fact, it was not driven regularly since 2004. The tires still had the nubs on the tread!
This was originally a green car, but the current paint has a bit of metal flake, so it shines! The paint is in good condition. The interior is factory dark green.
This is a nice driver. It runs as an original car should. I took it for a 140 mile road trip the day I bought it! I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere.
The car has 97k miles.
It has the base 350 V-8 with the TH400 automatic transmission.
The soft top is in great condition, and it has the nice factory hard top as well.
The car is largely stock. What a time capsule!
The only reason I am selling it is due to an overabundance of cars. I'm in no hurry or pressure to sell. I enjoy the car a lot. However, I could use some space.
I'm asking $20,000.
I would consider partial trades, but would prefer cash.
I would also be interested in taking a Kwik Lift in trade.
I took some better pics today. A mix of in the shade and direct sunlight.
C3s have the best through the windshield view IMHO:
All the pics I have can be seen on photobucket:

I just had the car appraised. It came in at $23-26k.
I'm only asking $20k!
This will make someone a happy vette owner! I wish I had the room to keep it.

Where are you located please. (edited, I logged on using my home computer and have this now).
Brandshatch Green had metallic in paint in 1971. I may have an interest. Did you fix seized seat belt and non working radio issues or do they remain? I have coupe green on green 71 now. This would be a nice addition.

I believe it was Brand Hatch Green. Current color is a shade lighter and more metallic. According to some paint charts I looked at it is a color called Timberland Green (I forget what brand).
I replaced the lower seat belts with aftermarket green units from Eckler's (that was quite a wait).
I have not messed with the radio. I did find an aftermarket slide bar unit. For me that would be the answer. But I wonder if a buyer may want a different route, so I may leave that to the next care taker.
Thanks Russ!

Have you spoken to Dave at Riverside Motorsports in Janesville Wisconsin. He Buys and sell Corvettes. Tell him that Jay in Houston referred you.
Very nice car by the way. Good luck on a quick sale.

Oddly enough I was unaware of this shop until last week. A potential local buyer intends to have Dave inspect the car later this week, so I should be meeting him. In fact I think Dave sent this potential buyer to me.

Colors can be deceiving. I have looked at your pictures several times and they look exactly like Brands Hatch Green to me. Having the color match the original would help the value of the car as many, including me, value the car when it is numbers matching.
I think your convertible would look nice next to my coupe if the colors match. I would not be interested in repainting to match, been there, done that, have the scars. Anyway, won't really know unless someone can run a color meter on the paint or see it in person. Wish we were closer and I would come verify color, matching numbers, etc. My VIN ends in 15707, mfg date was April 27th. Is your VIN number anywhere near mine?
Geez my head is spinning on this one.

Perhaps Dave at Riverside could confirm. I agree the pics are very close.
VIN# 194671S108406
When I had the body shop make up some touch up paint, they found the Timberland Green that was a good match. I can get the brand and let you know. Then you could look at a paint chip locally.

I went back to the body shop. They color we found was a 2003 Daimler Chrysler color - and was AKZO NOBEL brand.
This is exactly what the book said:
GW/AGW
Timberline Green P.2c
DK.DN.PU
CHA03:AGW
That is not exact as I believe this car was painted prior to 03, but it is very very close.

Okay, thank you. I have some homework to do on the paint. I am going to be in Michigan the first two weeks of August and I will try to see if I can get over to Wisconsin to see the car. If you sell it before that then my loss. My 71 I rebuilt from a beat up barn find, yours is in much better condition, will have to see it in person though to really know what I could offer for the car. Good luck with your sale, hope you get your price and I will connect with you when I head to Michigan next month to see if it is still available.
Best regards,

This is why I would have to see the car before purchasing.
Long road from purchase to finished for my 1971.
Have a great day.

Pros:
-It appears to be a "no hit" car, meaning there are no signs of accident damage.
-He commented how well it drove.
-He was surprised how comfy the stock seats still are.
Cons:
-The carpet should probably be replaced, I have heard this from a few people. It makes no difference to me, but I will likely replace is soon.
-The engine is not #s matching. If I understood him correctly it was the correct age, but was missing the vin#s. So it is likely from a truck or regular passenger car. Not a huge deal as this was a base 350 car anyway. On the plus side I found paperwork with the car seeming to show it has hardened valve seats, 2.02/1.60 valves, and an "RV" cam. This rebuild has very few miles on it.

I have a couple questions, might as well ask the forum or anyone potentially interested in the car.
1- What would be the best carpet choice. I see they range in price a bit. Is there a difference in quality between lines, or brands/vendors?
2- How would a big block swap effect this particular (base and not necessarily #s matching 350) car? My dad has a big block, and I have always wanted a big block vette...
