Default Tire Problem ! Anyone ever Seen this?

This weekend we were doing a Ride for Smiles and Wounded warrior Ride at Homestead.. This is our home track and i have years of racing and test time there...

During one of the laps with one of the Wounded Warrior we developed a vibration and after some careful inspection the front right showed up all deformed.. I have run all kind of race tires in my 30 years of racing and never seen this.. it looks to me like a major defect in the construction of this tire...

these tires had 3-4 heat cycles and are about a year old.. Hooser r6

Yep, I have seen it several times and experienced it once. The common them appears to be age and/or extended loading on rovals. Of the three tires I have personally seen do this, they occurred on older As and Rs at Charlotte.

Yep!! Manny, The tire separated from the steel belt. Depending on the date on the tire and when and where you bought them? They may replace it. I had it happen with 2 tires about a month apart and they replaced them. Both of my tires had the same build date. JD

A friends right front Hoosier R6 did the same thing at Summit Point about a month ago. Outside of the tire just separated from the casing. Luckily he pitted before the tire self destructed. His tires were also about a year old. Wonder if Hoosier had a bad batch of tires go through. It would be interesting to compare date codes.

Had a full race prep Viper in our run group at Putnam Park this summer that had a Hoosier do the same thing. We all thought it was uncommon, guess not

what you are looking at is the inside part of the tire that had bubbled up.. this was on the front right corner and yes that corner is the most loaded corner at Homestead,.
there must have been a problem with this set from the begin as from now i was chasing a balance problem,, and the grip sucked.. the last thing i did was to road force balance and they were not to bad but when i ran on them they would get out of balance like if i thru a weight ....the tires always look normal and had great thread .. 3-4 heat cycle and then this showed up... thank god we did blow it on the banking as i had many wounded warriors out for some hot laps before it started to really shake...

i will get the date and batch code and but it up..i now have zero trust in the Hoosier tires..
i have been running P zero world challenge tires and some conti and never had any problems

hot psi was 28-29

Thanks Curtis...that was me. They were 2 yr old Hoosiers A's 295/18, Pressures were 30 PSI and it was the LF/ Load side for Summit Point. Definitely dodged a bullet

If you flip the tire over, you have built in -camber.
