I was set up just past turn 6 and saw this whole thing live. From my vantage point it was hard to see exactly what happened. The cars went under the bridge and then I saw one go airborne. It was the place to be. We saw a lot of offs in that area of the track.

Corner workers and camera man got lucky. If that P car had gone a couple of feet farther right and it would have been a disaster. I hope that the corner worker that had his or her back to the track learned a lesson. Very slow reaction to the car coming at them.

Are you talking about the lady at the very beginning of the video when the car first hits the wall? And she is looking towards the Uphill Esses?

That is her job. To watch the uphill esses, not the bridge straight. The corner worker watches the area past the corner worker station in order to see if anything happens after that station in order to throw the flag. In a big race, there is another person in the bucket with them to watch before the corner worker station.

That cameraman almost turned dedication into DEAD-ication. I'm all for getting close to the action to sell products for the sponsors, but stand behind a wall well away from the track and use a longer lens.

VERY rough weekend of racing, with this crash at VIR, and Dario's Indy car crash at Houston - incredible airborne flight into the catch fence. It would appear everyone is ok, but I still haven't heard definitive word on Dario's injuries.

I never realized how much that sticks out there. Usually all the action is just past there.

At the ALMS event (support race) NARRA lost a Viper Comp Coupe in the esses as well. Cut a tire down on entry, car went for a wild ride into the tires/armco as well. Ended up upside down, and pretty much destroyed. We found (scattered about) the Go Pro case, and battery, but never found the camera/card. Driver was a little beat up but ok

The speeds are not as high but it could have been bad if something similar happened between NASCAR and Left Hook with all the people sitting in lawn chairs up next to the short fence just behind the tire wall.
