1st Track Day Tire Question
I'm going to my first real track day next weekend @ VIR (I did the Prime Drive 1 session with NCM in June). I picked up an extra set of wheels/ tires to use. The tires are Bridgestone re-11. Rears are great, Fronts are worn almost slick on the outside edge from track use by previous owner. No cords, or even close, but barely any tread on the outside 1/3. Will I be ok to use these for the track day, or should I be looking for some front tires?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I retired my last pair of fronts because of lack of tread on the outside edge. The rest of the tire had some life left, but I put the most wear on that outside edge in the turns. It really depends on how many laps you are going to put on them, I guess. But the way I looked at it: the way they were wearing down, I didn't want together through half a day and see cords. If you have two sets of wheels you bring two sets of fronts and run them down until yyou need to swap.

Thanks for the replies, I'll flip them and run them for this event. I'll carry my others and swap if it rains.
@ Hat trick, I'm going next weekend with NASA. It's a Fri - Sun (hpde on sat and sun) with different races, time trials, and hpde classes.

Seriously guys, barely any tread on the outside 1/3, first track day, new guy?
I don't think you are doing him any favors, recipe for a long day of understeering frustration (I assume stock alignment).
At least check for cording at every session & call it a day when they do.
If you hear/feel anything, safely pull off.
2 cents.

Flip them on the rim and put them on the opposite side of the car the tread will be facing the correct direction.

If he runs over track trash that has come off someone's car a bald tire or one worn down to almost gone it'll puncture very easy. No matter if it's inside or outside.
If the promoter of the event has any kind of serious tech inspection he won't get on the track anyway.
This is like going on track with worn down brake pads & thinking "I'll just take it easy". Then the red mist rolls in.
