Default First Autocross

Did my first autocross today and it was a blast. It was with the Colorado Springs Corvette Club at PPIR. I managed to go from a 85-79.6. The course was really fun and the members were pretty nice. I just ran on my vredesteins and ran 28psi cold all around (didn't check them again the rest of day). It was sprinkling so that made traction difficult. My car is c5z bone stock except corbeau fx1-pro.

All in all fantastic time.

Like Rudy said, welcome to the additction. Keep the car stock and learn to drive the car and the limits. You have the best, in stock form, platform you can get with the C5Z.

Welcome to the sport. You should definitely run with the SCCA folks up there. www.rmsolo.org to contact them. Good bunch of folks.

The only problem with the stock part is my racing seat takes me out of stock classes. I need to see what that moves me too in SCCA and modify to according to the matching class.

Yes the race seat takes you out of SCCA stock and puts you in SSP (Super Street Prepared). However since you are new, just autocross as you are as you will have a lot to learn. Modifications don't help other than an alignment, wheels and tires for novices, usually they are just more ***** to turn and most get turned the wrong way.

I understand, I really just want headers for the sound and a performance boost on the street. I was kind of getting bored with the power level of the vette but the autocross definitely showed me different it had a pretty good amount.

Do you any of guys race for points with the NCCC?

That is a common crossroad. What would be fun for non-autox use versus classing for autox. Just a question of priority. I do not compete in NCCC.

Pretty sure you can run in the street tire class.

I only auto-x'd the Z06 once, but I thought the rules were more lax? Sorry for being too lazy to look them up, I just remember waxing most of the street tire class my first time out in a bone stock car. Then my ******* friend beat me in a car he'd never driven.

I run for Regional Points, not National. You either need to be retired or have a flexible work schedule to run for NCCC National Points. There is lots of travel.

You may be able to run Group 1 in NCCC with the race seat. I will try to look it up. I'm surprised any organization would bump you a class because of the seat.

(For NCCC, if you have a back breakable seat mounted on stock tracks you could run Group 1. If you have a non back breakable race seat, you would be moved up to Group 2.)
I do run SCCA also. Run 3E in NCCC and SSM in SCCA.

Yea I don't really have a say on my schedule right now because I'm switching careers. My seat is a fixed back and they ran me as 1SJ but said I should technically be classed in the 2SJ.

I'll be doing an SCCA auto-x on the 18th and I considered throwing my stock seat in, but I'll just race for fun and keep modifying it to the SSP class until I decide it's time for a cam.

I run in SSP because of the seat too. Mine came with headers, cat, and intake mods. I also moved up to 295 front 315 rear r-comps. PAX is pretty tough in SSP, but you can shoot for top raw time and top 5 PAX with some good driving.

Auto X is Blast, and you will never meet a funnier group of people, I was told on the first day that performance Break Pads and Tires can be worth as much as 7 -10 seconds on a basic Auto X course s as you’re driving experience improves. Also after every event don’t forget to Check your pads and rotors, bleed the brakes with DOT 4 and use the Ranger clutch reservoir DOT 4 flush method. If you want to take it to the next level, High Planes Race Way has Willie B Track Days; the next one is this Sunday and I will be driving down from Billings to partake. http://www.highplainsraceway.com/willieb.html

Yea I'm not planning on r comps until I get better. I may go switch to a square setup soon though. SSP here has a ferrari and two exige's all on hoosiers so I'm not planning on getting close to the lotus's.

Don't be too sure, 3 of the top 5 driver at nationals in SSP were in C5 Z06's, and the other 2 were in C6 Z06's.
