Default Road course oil temp too high

I think. Do you RR drivers think 260* oil temp 13 minutes into 20 min session is high. 2006 z51 race pads 405 rwhp boltons. Let me know please

As you routinely get toward 290+ you will have to add extra cooling. I wish mine would only see 260.

What is it after 20 minutes? Mine's hit 260 with a cooler, but it was 300 without, so it's doing something. Are you opposed to getting a cooler, or do you already have one?

You might also want to research the properties of your oil at that sort of temp. Many lighter oils lose a lot of viscosity up there.

Have you considered an aftermarket cooler? There is a vendor on here who makes bolt-on coolers for the Z06, IIRC that'll work for you too right? I don't think 260 is going to be an issue with good oil, but if I had the choice I'd have my oil down around 220 on track.

It used to run 225/230 and I. Thought that was high. More bolt on-ported intake and Re-11 tires. And harder driving is the culprit. I'm not fast just faster then before, and driving harder

Makes all the difference. I exercised a great deal of restraint at my last track outing, running a familiar track but in reverse. I followed an HPDE1 student, then an HPDE2 student. Coolant and oil were the same as driving to work. Once I felt comfortable I could leave the HPDE2 BMW in the dust, I got up his *** and took the point by. Never looked back and my temps soared instantly (oil went from 210 to 238, coolant from 195 to 218). Brakes felt mushier, PS started singing as it does, and engine pulled timing for ECT (and thus became easier to drive with no ***** ). I backed off for a lap and everything quieted back down. The pace you run has a huge impact on your temps even if it doesn't seem you're going that much faster. I recently opened up the inlet to my oil cooler and plan to make a couple small mods to the engine coolant system as well. If you can swing the ching, I suggest you do the same starting with the oil cooling. You have a great starting point with pre-existing lines and mounting points.

I'd get that aftermarket oil cooler, I just can't remember the guy on here who makes them. I'm pretty sure it's bolt on and plug and play for your car, I know that's the case for the C6 Z06s. Also pretty sure he's a vendor on here. It's a bigassed cooler, runs the whole width of the radiator.

I thought @ the Z06 cooler. Was told that was a little better. Your right, driving advanced RG pushing 8-9/10 th's makes it hot.

Finspeed possibly?

In my Katech built C6Z I see max oil temps in the 220-230 range w/ 15w50 oil and that's pushing it as hard as I can on R6's.

Yes, Finspeed is what I was thinking of. Sure, Z06 is better than Z51, but the Finspeed is the end-all solution.

If it is Finspeed then I would tell the OP to just call and speak with Daniel there. He's a good guy and straight shooter that also tracks a Vette so he knows what works and what does not. Also makes some great wheels lol, just ordered some last week!

What about the long term? I know 260 won't blow a motor up this season, likely not next either, but I'm thinking if one wantrf to squeeze many many moons out of thrit engine that they'd want to be decidedly below 260 because the motor was designed for the oil to be a certain viscosity at 200-220. At 260, it's falling fast. Not as fast as 300, but still not quite where it should be. Especially in the case here, where there is a bolt in solution that would likely bring his temps down where he could continue to run 5W30. I know a lot of members do run at 250-260 on track, I'm one of them.
