Needs Some Help....Missing Coilover Part
Hoping some one here can help me with a quick referral. C6 vette.. Front lower control arms... with coilovers.....I need the lower shock mounting hardware. I believe its called a tiebar that mounts the shock to the lower control arm? Where would you recommend buying these? Thanks for your help!

I'm no coilover expert, but I believe most shocks come with those built into the shock, I have not seen them as a separate sold part.
Maybe if you call Penske or some other custom shock mfg you could scare one up.

The ones that come with the factory shocks are probably not substantial enough for use with a coilover package.
Gary at Hardbar used to sell them but I think they are out and he isn't making any more due to the high cost since the production numbers are low.

Penske had their own version but they kept breaking, I believe they have now copied Gary's version and may sell them as individual pieces.
Otherwise you can just make your own. I did and it's not that big of a deal. Just need some 17-4PH stainless 1/2" rod which is easy to get.

That's what I thought OP meant. Why do need to be stronger for CO?
The only problem I have seen (on Koni's) is the bushing shoving out of the "eye" on the shock which of course is not a problem of the metal bar bit.
It's a bushing problem.
If the OP could find where old shocks go to die, he could salvage a few off the dead OEM shocks.
The bushing/bearing would need to be fabbed up.

Thanks for the replies guys! I found a couple vendors who have them just need to get sizes worked out.
Froggy.... I would think that the strength of the bar is much stronger on a coilover converted car due to the fact that the weight of the car is now resting on it.

Seriously...? You stated in your first post that you're no coilover expert. I really don't need suspension 101 classes. I know how it works. On a coilover converted car the spring is adjusted and attached to the shock body. The shock body is held in place and attached to lower control arm with the tie bar. The tie bar does have the weight of the car sitting on it. Suspension 101.

Not trying to be a jerk... Just wanted to find tie bars for coilovers was all this thread was about. I appreciate your input and trying to help. Please don't take offense .

Sorry, no offense, maybe you are right.
I just can't picture that little bit taking the weight of a car.
Anyway I thought my idea of finding a used shock & getting it off that was pretty good?

How are you mounting the tie-bar? Rubber, heim, mono-ball??? ID would help me figure out of ours would work or not. Last resort I will send you one, if you are a more hands on guy.

Send me a PM with your address and I will get one sent off straight away. If it works, I will charge you double for the other one
It just happens our coilover package is based off of a Bilstein shock!
