Default AIM Solo mounting?

Looking for ideas on how to mount my AIM Solo in my C6Z besides the suction cup on the windshield or velcro. I currently use a home brew mount wedged into the top dash pad/control pod, but not very secure. I'd like to get some ideas of how to mount so that it's mechanically secure, yet removable since it's not a track dedicated car. Please post pix if you have any.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm working on the same thing. I have currently fabbed a mount that uses the driver's side air vent above the Nav unit as it's support. I've brought the cables (I have a DL with a SmartyCam, so 2 cables) in through the side of the vent housing under the dash, so the cabling is completely concealed. I ran at CoTA yesterday and it was rock solid, however I need to make some adjustments to the design to improve the viewing angle, and to make it removable. I'll post pics soon.

Hmmmm, sounds interesting.......could you post some pix and/or more details on what exactly you did? I'm hazy on what you attached it to...is it jammed into the vents or did you somehow wedge it behind the center console (plastic) and the top dash pad?

thanks................

May I ask why you don't want to run the suction cup mount?

Richard, I know I didn't like it because there was no where I could find to mount it that wouldn't reduce visibility.

Mounting it low on the windshield puts it too far forward due to the rake of the windshield and it puts it right in the middle of my lower field of vision. I like to have it closer to me for vision reasons as well as accessibility (I like to reach through window of car and remove/install unit between sessions so I can review lap data).

Understood.

How about something like this?

You can attach AiM Solo's backing plate onto the mount using screws or double sided tape.

Hey, that looks interesting.....it just might be what I am looking for. And, it's cheap enough to take a chance on w/o much risk

Thanks, Richard

I'd just want to add for Richard's benefit that some (a lot here in the NE) HPDE organizations prevent suction cup mounting and demand everything be hard mounted.

I removed the radio, put in an aluminum plate in its stead, and screwed in the (very practical) backing plate, and the lap timer just claps in place with the magnets, so I can take it out whenever I want.

Yup. I remember back in the days when I ran with PDA the rules were very strict. Any pictures of your set up?

Hi guys, here's another mounting solution. Special thanks to Josh from AiM for finding this.

Old post, Richard do you have any pics of mounts in 4th gen Camaro's?

I looked at Proclips, I don't really like the suction cup mount in my car it blocks too much windshield.

Update: I tried all the suggested mounting methods, but they were either too flimsy or mounted the unit too low for easy viewing while driving. I opted to fab up a mount that wedges into the dash pad/plastic pod on the right side of the instrument panel. It works ok most of the time, but it still comes out once in a while when it's not inserted just right. I'll continue to work on it and when it works well will share it with the forum.
