Disc brakes.

Jaguar would never have won LeMans without them. Mercedes had to resort to airbrakes to try to get anything like the braking performance the Jags had.

Off the top of my head I was thinking
rear view mirrors
seat belts
disk brakes
high speed tire construction

I believe the belts and brakes were from air planes

(With a nod to it's naming patron The Raftracer) I'm thinking it would have to be the azz-o-meter. Without it's development we'd never know how much we really need to slow for a turn.

Jim Hall was probably responsible for most of the cool ones! Racing has never been the same.
