Default Trailer Lug Nuts

I just updated my blog that deals with trailer lug nuts. You don't need to drop a wheel off your trailer.

That's a good reminder. I usually try to check the torque on the trailer wheels before I travel, but sometimes in the rush of trying to get on the road, I overlook that step. I think I'll make a "to do" list of things that I need to do before I leave.

Haven't checked mine in quite a while but when it was new I had to re-torque them 10-15 times before they quit loosening. My trailer has the standard white steel wheels on EZ-lube hubs. I have seen many a trailer wheel come loose from not being re-tightened. I guess it takes a while for the cheap wheels to conform to the hubs?

That said, both sets of aluminum wheels on my car will require one re-torque after running a spell. After that they seem to stay tight.

I haven't checked mine since new tires were installed last year. Need to add to track day cklist. If you don't mind, I am posting the torque specs here for future searches.

M12 - 65 lb. ft./ 88 Nm
M14 - 108 lb ft. / 164 Nm

Torque Specifications: Wheel Nuts
