Crane Cams V8 StockCar GT-2 Champ Nick Hazelwood moves to GT-1 for 2013
Alpharetta, Georgia's Nick Hazelwood, the 2012 Crane Cams V8 StockCar GT-2 Champion in his Corvette will take the step to the next level in 2013 moving to the GT-1 class. Hazelwood drives for Hammer Magnum Racing and the team has acquired the former
GT-1 Corvette of veteran SCCA and V8 StockCar racer Scott Murphy. The ex Murphy Corvette is a Pancho Weaver creation and has been a proven winner in SCCA Nationals and V8 StockCar races. The car has a Derhaag Motorsports body with an 800 plus HP Chevrolet SB2.2 by Fred Lankford for power. The car is currently back in Weaver's shop in North Carolina getting the latest updates.
Hazelwood, who just turned sixteen in November had a stellar first season in road racing winning both the SCCA South Atlantic Road Racing Championship in the STO class and becoming the youngest champion in the history of the Crane Cams V8 StockCar Series driving his C6 Z06 Corvette (GT-2 class) prepared by CrossRoads Motorsports' Sam Power.
In 2013, Hazelwood will compete in SCCA Nationals with an eye on the runoffs,select Crane Cams V8 StockCar GT-1 races and possibly later in the year in Trans Am.
Hazelwood's 2012 V8 Championship car has been sold and now resides in Washington state with the new owner.
