Hoosier R6 to Nitto NT01?
I think the R6 is a great tire and I've used them for a couple of years now. The problem is that they put quite a ding in the racing budget because they wear out so quickly. From what I've read and heard, the NT01 seems to be a pretty good track tire with reasonable life. I'm looking for something that will give me more usage and not give up to much in the lap time area. My car is used for mainly for NASA time trials and a few DE events. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks

I thought it would be about half that much. I'll be able to tell you in a few months as I'll be making a change from scrubs to nt01s. 2 cents.

Melting Slicks
If you are running 18" wheels, you should check out the Pirelli DH compound slicks from GT Racing tires at $100 a piece. Longevity is decent and they are much faster than the R6 let alone the Nittos.

The Hoosier R 6 and Nitto NT-01 are quite different tires. The Hoosiers are sig faster, somewhat more difficult to drive and heat cycle out pretty quickly. ( Not a problem if you are running long sessions but not always great for repeated shorter sessions). The Nitto is cheaper, more forgiving and lasts a lot longer but absolutely not as fast. The Nitto is much like the Toyo RA-1 i.e people say it sucks but it sucks for a long time. Yes I have driven all 3 on different cars. Best choice depends on what you want to do with them.

Kevin I would agree with your estimate of time differences obviously depending on track length etc. BTW what sort of difference between R6s and A6s ?

MarkDFW - do you have a supplier for the Continental tires? I can't find very much on them on the internet.
Thanks for you input guys

Those are all continental tire sizes and yes the quote he gave me was for new. I have a wide body so I would run 285/645-18 front and 325/680-18. I read on another thread the GT O last longer than the GT R. Check with Mike at Champs for details.

I have run both the GTRs and GTOs and and the GTO does wear a bit better but the GTR's are sticky as hell.

Mike quoted me $800 for all four tires when we traded emails. Maybe I misunderstood but he said he ran r6 for years and switched to conti to save money since they are about half price and good for around 25 heat cycles.

That PDF is conti site selling to alms cars. Not his prices. Call him and let me know what he says. I just read his email again and sure sounds like 800 was for the whole set

I have run a lot of different tires and have settled on the Nitto's. I kept my Hoosier rains for obvious reasons. Nittos are an RA1 carcass with a different tread pattern. They are very difficult to heat cycle out, perform very well within the heat range, and last a long time not to mention the price is very good. I will run RA1's if I can get them also.
Hancook 214's aren't bad either. If your on a stiff budget you can't lose with these two choices. If you can stomach a street tire, RS3's are great and the latest ones are even better.

How are NT-01's in the cold? Specifically, Carolina Motorsports Park in February. Had planned to get R6 scrubs for the NASA-SE event but have been advised that R's aren't the best for a learning driver in the cold and I'm sure I don't need A's. Just curious if the NT-01's warm up fairly easily on cold, already-slick-as-*h**-when-warm, tracks?
