Default Anyone paint the COT wing? Is it a DIY?

Got this wing:

I have it cleaned up and smoothed out some, but paint is faded pretty bad. It looks like some kind of composite, so I was thinking it could just be roughed up with scotchbrite, hit with some paint cleaner and then rattle canned? Yes - no?

Do you have additional support under the decklid to the frame? Grab it on one end and try to shake it side to side, also try to push down on it and see how solid it is, it should be solid as a rock...

That wing looks like it can create a bunch of downforce, especially with that much AOA...

Check with your local paint and body shop supplier to see if a special primer is required. More than likely as you mentioned scuffing with scotch brite and a good wiping down with wax and grease remover would do it.

Looking good!

This is not me or my car, but I would not hesitate to lay down on mine with no worries..

There's video on Youtube of a BMW at VIR and what happened when his wing collapsed. If I can find it, I'll post it. Some of you guys remember my Datsun Zcar with the big wing out back. We removed it for all the reasons mentioned above.

You will lose efficiency if you don't get a really nice smooth finish.

Johnny, are you sure that is a COT wing? I do not recognize that profile as anything they ever ran on short tracks, road courses, or superspeedways.

I have only looked at the ones attached to wing, but they are on there solid. Guy I bought them from says he runs at Pocono at 155 with no issues. He only had like a 4" strip mounted under the deck lid for each support. I may do something different there. I bought a used deck lid to hack up for that.

It will definitely pass that test before I hit the track with it. My maintenance guy here at work is going to help me with that.

I thought it was COT, but it is not even close. Will try to find out what it is.

Yep - that is it. My mounting brackets are different, but that is the wing. So it is fiberglass. Might have to do some reading on painting fiberglass. It is probably like painting anything - prep - prep - prep.

Thanks man. Now I know where to get the matching splitter.
