Default Shock opinion 02 Z06

Any experience to give comparison on 2008 Vette OEM shock versus Bilstein Sports for autocross on a C5 Z06?

If you can afford them, the stock 2004 Z06 shocks are the "best" option on a stock car. From there, I would probably recommend PFADT coil overs.

You should also take a look at our Johnny O'Connell replacement shocks. They do not have any adjustability, but they are a simple installation and are pretty cost effective. You can likely also stay legal for stock class autox depending on your ruleset. You will benefit from the increase in low speed compression for extra confidence and turn in response, but the drop in high speed rebound damping will help the car remain stable over rough road surfaces like you can see during Autox.

Thanks! Will look into these shocks. Noted JO shocks are back ordered. Any idea when they'll be back in stock?

Agree on the 04 z shocks.

Not really....

The damping curves for the front Bilstein sports are identical to the 04Z shocks and the rears are only slightly different. It would take a very highly calibrated rear end to tell the difference. The Bilsteins will last forever, the stock shocks won't last nearly as long. Bottom line is that there is no reason to spend the extra bucks for the 04 Z shocks. I you look on the Far North Racing site in the shock section there are shock curves for both, go see it for yourself.

If you are in a stock class and want to stay non-adjustable (like for NCCC) the Bilsteins are great shocks. If you want single adjustable shocks, go with the Koni's.

Does anyone know what the difference in valving is between the off the shelf Bilstein sports and the DRM-valved Bilsteins?

I was also wondering about the valving on the LG Sport Bilsteins that are sold without the coil-over conversion. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks!

I can't speak to other shock packages, but I have the DRM coil-overs on my pretty dedicated track car...they are awesome and considering all the folks I am able to harass in the corners with my 02 C5Z; I suspect that they are some pretty damn good shocks for the money.

If anyone wants to provide a set of 3-way Penske's I will be happy to do the comparison work

I bought my '04 Z used and it had Bilstein shocks on it. Not sure what model they were but I put the Johnny O'Connell package on and couldn't be happier. The car rides much better over bumps now and handles better as well as the shocks are more stiffly sprung. For the money, the O'Connell package is a bang.

It would be interesting to know if they were Bilstein Sports or the HD's. I 've been pleased with the Bilstein Sports on my Z51 with T1 bars.
