Default Have you tracked/raced on a repaired rim?

No "opinions" please as I'm sure most would be along the lines "Buy a new rim, what's your life worth".

Just would like to know if anyone has done it?

I know wheels fail, but it's mostly the spokes or center on a 3 piece.

I have a ccw14 with a repair on a rim edge about 3 inch and does not extend to where the lip curves in.

I could post a pic, but I think that describes it pretty well.

What do you think?

Actually if you look at my video (polish a rim) at 5:00 and at 7:00 minutes in you can see it inside & outside lip.

Half of my wheels have been straightened/re-rounded by Wheel Repar Specialists in Santa Ana. They work fine.

I have run on a repaired wheel with my Cobra with no issues. I know at least one other TTA podium car that runs on a repaired C5Z wheel.

Heck, I set the NASA TTA lap record at Charlotte last year on a 17" C5Z wheel with a bent lip. I happened to have that set of wheels on the car when I rolled through tech at Nationals in September and one of the inspectors pointed it out. I laughed and said, "That there is a record setting wheel, but I promise to only use it as a "paddock" wheel for this week." Yeah right.

I realized a few days prior to an event last year that one of my C5Z OEM rims was bent. When I went to have a tire put on it, it would not balance...could not be balanced because of this. The bend was not near the spokes but rather on the inside, far from the support of the spokes.

Luckily there was a local wheel shop that was open on Saturday and would take it right away. He turned it around in 1.5 hr and I've had it up at speed many times since with zero issues.
