Trackmaster (for Android) now does video as well as data acquisition as of the last update. Check it out in the Android Market or http://trackmaster.trackaroo.com

This app (Optrix VideoPro) is now out. I'll be giving it a shot at my next autocross on Feb 18th!

let us know how it goes....I'm holding out for an iPhone with a larger screen (still a 3gs), but this might push me to upgrade sooner if it does a good job.

I got it when it came out and spoke with one of the developers when I had some questions. They gave me same day feedback.

I have used it in my truck driving around town, but not at the track yet.

It is fairly easy to use and inexpensive (if you already have the iPhone).

You definitely will need a sturdy mount. I ended up with a Panavise 809 suction cup and a Snapmount for iPhone.

Basically you stick it to the inside of your windshield, select the app, and go. It will auto calibrate then you can lock the focus and choose the resolution. After your session hit end. You will have a raw video on your camera roll. At this point, open the app and select overlay. The app will then render the gauges, draw the track map, and add the graphics. This process takes 2x the recorded length so if it is a 20 min session you can expect 40 min of rendering.

The end result looks just like the videos on their website. You do not need an external GPS, it is accurate enough just with the iPhone.

I have an iPhone 4 and will test it at the track soon. My only concern is that the 4 does not have image stabilization and the 4S does. Probably not a factor on a racetrack since it is smooth but I will see.

I find the video quality for the 4 isn't too shabby, especially for a phone, but the 4s would certainly be better (and does 1080p vs 720). This is before the Optix app.

To use the data acquisition, you'd need GPS, which you need cell service for. To just do video, you don't need cell service.

No, you don't need cell service to get GPS. You would need it (or at least wi-fi) to get mapping but the on-board GPS chip does not need a data connection to find your location.

That question would best be answered by sending it to the website on their page.

As far as I know, it only needs the iPhone GPS.

What mount did you use for this video?

I got a mount from amazon. Was about $20. I don't remember the name, sorry.

So I tried out the app today. I must say, I like it. I don't get to review the video while at the track, not that I need to, but it's still quite fun to review later. It even maps out the track...thought that was pretty cool. Just wish it did lateral G's.

Overall, I think it's easily worth the $10 to have at least some data.

I guess that circle in the bottom left is an indication of G's.

It's not calibrated with a number, but I'm assuming the inner circle may be 0.5 and the outer is 1.0.

You could check it against the display of G in your HUD or DIC to find out what those circles correspond to.

Yep, would just be nice to have the actual number...and the C4 doesn't give you that info on the DIC!
