Does anyone know anything about any road racing or autoXing oppotunities in west TX? (San Angelo, Abilene, Midland, Odessa, etc.)

I've lived in San Angelo for a while and unfortunately I have to travel a ways for events. Me and a few of my friends have been to an Equipe Rapide event near Dallas (Mineral Wells). There is usually a National SCCA autocross event there each year, either a Tour or a Pro. The nice thing about their events is that they seem to wrap up very early so driving back to San Angelo on the same day isn't a big deal; you still get back early enough to unpack, eat, and go to bed on time to get to work early. There is also Spokes in San Antonio which is a pretty good club. Both of those are autocross clubs and each have several National level competitors.

Harris Hill Road, MSR Cresson, and Driveway Austin will be the closest tracks (all about 3.5 hours). There really isn't anything less than 3-4 hours away unfortunately.

If you want to get into dirt ovals, there is a lot in West Texas. There was also a off road (Baja style) race about an hour from here earlier this year.

Hope that helps!

West Texas Region PCA usually has an autocross about every other month in Big Springs TX. Permianbasin corvettes has a website, that lists most of these types of events in the area. Check the Drivers Edge and Nasa website's for trackdays.

You can also look into the Big Bend Open Road Race...from Fort Stockton to Sanderson.

Absolutely untrue...

Pay your money, get car tech'd for speed class, go on a shake-down with one of the BBORR people, get signed off, have fun...in that order.

It is about 5 miles south of Midland, On HWY 349. The track is private, and has not been used for about 20 years. It is in bad shape. A local group of people, mostly freinds and fans of Jim Halls. Have been trying to get the track restored.

What a shame...

Hope they can pull it off. It's hard enough to get one of these things built from scratch. Fixing something already in place would be a lot cheaper. Just need to be able to pay for it with enough events...

Ok got signed up today for the BBORR. I entered the SR class 2. Since I am a rookie at this particular venture but not to racing have I chosen too slow of a class? caution maybe to the extreme?

I would appreciate some input from those who have run this before.
Thanks
Mike

You may want to look at Harris Hill Road (http://harrishillroad.com) near San Marcos, but it may not be as west as you'd like.
