Default 255s Dinged

MFers:

TECHNICAL BULLETIN (11-27-11):

Beginning with the 2012 TT, PT, and ST seasons, the Hoosier 255/35-18 (A6 and R6) will be assessed points based on its actual 275mm size. This assessment will be for both modification points in Section I.a of the PT and TTA-TTF Rules, and for modification factors in the calculation of Adjusted Wt/Hp Ratio for TT, PT, and ST.

Unfortunately this came out well past the de facto tire shipping deadline in the NE.

Anyone want to trade me some 245s?

Anyone know if 245s fit on the 10.5" Z06 wheels?
The 245s have a 10.5" section width vs. the 10.7" of the 275s.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. More points freed up, more correction factor (.8 vs .4) on the lb/hp. The 255s have a loss of .2" on the section width vs the 255s (though 1" on the tread). Has anyone seen a 245/40/18 vs 255/35/18 stacked against each other? How does the tread width compare?

planning to test in March

the actual tread is a good bit smaller than the 255/275/295.

I'll probably run them on 18x9.5" wheels initially, but will test fit on the 10.5's.

I have eyed them for awhile, but never had a chance or reason this past year to try them

This is a slippery path for the rules to take.

This really sucks for me... I've got a brand new set of 255s in the garage and to go back to 275s I'll have to take my spoiler off and my T1 bars or my brakes since I have an aftermarket balancer that I'm not removing.

I'm open to trying the 245/40/18s since they're taller than the 255/35s, but if they don't work on a 10.5" wheel then I'm sort of stuck. Hadn't planned on buying even more sets of wheels.

What's the deal with the 255's?

Seems this would have been worked out by NASA long ago so people wouldn't have gotten tires that are now pretty much unuseable.

They're making 255s and 275s the same points. I.e. removing the 6 pt break you get for 255s over the 275s. I think it's BS to single out one tire like that when it really is a very different tire. It's much shorter than the 275/35 which has it's own unique challenges.

I'm in a pinch now since I optimized my stuff fo 255s. Since I don't have 6 points to use I'll have to take off my spoiler to get 4 back and still need to find two. My brakes are two and my T1 bars are two so I'll have to take one of those off.

I'd be open to trying 245s, but I have 8 18x10.5 Z06 wheels that I've collected and don't care to get rid of and I'm not sure if the 245 will work on the 10.5" wheel.

I could argue the "cheater" 255 either way good or bad, but what I can tell you is that the new rule change just sucked most of the life out of both classes it's used in (not even including PT).

Brian - there's no OEM 18" wheel that will clear your brakes other than the C5Z's. You're going to have to buy back all those 17" wheels you just sold.

One of the reasons I changed from TTA to TTS. More freedom, no worries about "what if's".

I do feel for all of you that purchased the 255 size recently.

Other than losing the extra points the 255's used to provide, it's not that big of a deal (in TTA). I think at some tracks (Rd Atl) it's faster than the 275 anyway.

I got one set back for rains. I'm not really sure what to do now... Might take a page out of David's "recession aero" and to a poor man's ST2 setup.

I guess I could try some 245/17s or maybe we'll get lucky and the 245/40/18s will work. They're the same overall width and they're actually taller than the 255s.

they have proved to be ~ = to the 275 at RA and VIR, so not big deal finishing all of them off there. I ran a 32.9 with them at RA in Aug and they were 2+ yr old date codes. That's a 31.xx in cool air.

My hunch is the 245 will work on the 10.5" but we might need some curb feelers and scorpion logo's on the car to complete the look
