Default replacement clutch suggestions ?

the Spec 1 in my stock power C5Z began slipping badly today at the track.

What mid - price range replacement clutch have you guys had good luck with ?

I will reuse my fidanza flywheel. The car is licensed and driven to the track, but the Zs foremost purpose in life is as a weekend track / HPDE toy.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions !

Default Clutch choice

When I had my Fidanza flywheel installed at MSI their suggestion was a LUK Gold, with the stock motor. Not expensive and I had no problems with it. This was 4 years ago,

Spec 3 worked real nice for me although there is a big increase in the needed force to depress the thing not so hot for street driving
never noticed it on the track though and it does hook up fast

I have a practically new Spec 3 disc in the box in my shop. I removed it when my torque tube bushings went bad. It has 6 weekends on it and no street use. It worked flawlessly. I put in a Spec 1 full face disc.

$100 shipped and it's yours.

I spent some quality time on the phone with spec this morning and ended up purchasing a 2+ replacement disc. After some discussion, they recommended either a Spec 2+ or 3 disc, but I opted on the 2 + due to the fidanza fly.
Thanks all for the input.

Is the disc all you need for a clutch replacement? I am at 405 rwhp and my clutch needs to be replaced, some slipping and lots of smell on hard runs.

I'd be careful of the Fidanza. Both myself and my brother in law have shattered them albeit not in Vettes. We both use ASSCO's now. Much much beefier in the centre section.
I believe Fidanzas out of business now.

There is no comparison between a Spec and the RPS clutch - the RPS is a much better design for both performance and drivability. One shop that use to sell Spec, now carries RPS based on an install they did for me earlier this year. They build race cars and were also impressed with the RPS.

I think you have made your decision but in my Z I have used the RAM clutch with 0 issues. I have stayed with a stock flywheel and resurfaced it one time ... Like the a bit over stock feel and the durability. I do not abuse it but it does take a beating. 3 years of track use just wore it slam out. Purchased another and all is going well.
