Default ***Calling all Road Racers&AutoX- Serious Inquiry***

This question isn't for me personally, it's for all you road racers. Imagine like a new transmission being built for you I'm looking to find out about transmission ratios. Many of you experienced ppl (Wally,AU N EGL,Jason,RX-Ben,What cop) I want to get info from, and this is better to announce to every racer, rather than pm about 25 people. I need these numbers from C5 & C6 owners only
________________________________________ ________________________
Question:
If you could have a transmission with any gear ratios for Road Racing, Auto X what would you pick?(1st-6th please )
________________________________________ ________________________

I understand that there prolly isn't just one perfect ratio because courses can differ vastly. But I ask that you limit your opinion to1 set of ratios you can also like like someone else's and I will count that as a vote again.

Once we achieve this I will take down all ratio's suggested. Then the start a poll to select from there. And from that poll will arise, 2 road racing ratio's and 1 AutoX ratio. I know we can only get so close but this will help greatly with real world experience.

Now I feel I have to ask this, but please let's keep this serious, and I absolutely do not want a debate. This is a simple request and technically all I need is numbers if you don't wanna say anything else positive to further this thread. I'm very very interested in what the racers I named above have to offer with number as well as all other C5 & C6 owners. I will ask that when you post your ratio, please state whether it's for a road course or AutoX. <---- This is very very important.

If any member feels I should have asked anything further or left anything out, please let me know. Wally and AU N EGL, Im counting to get your ratios

Thanks everyone

Regardless even if I had a typo and said injury, you can clearly tell my post has nothing to do with that anyway.

Default Transmission ratio's

Would you consider adding final drive ratio and tire diameter?

Thank you!!!

Final drive is fine because some racers still driver these cars around.

I'm a little confused how the tire diameter applies? Please do tell.

C5 GM close ratio racing tranny worked pretty well. I think the C6 ZR1 is pretty close to that. Both are well spaced with a useable 6th gear.

If the M12 is what your referring to people always talk about the dreaded 3-4 drop so this can be any ratio you want. I just need the numbers. And IIRC the ZR1 trans has really spaced ratios because of all the power that is put down ( 1st gear tops out at I think 59/60 mph)

Don't know if that would be a viable option for the Gen. pop ya know?

Thank you for your interest

Honestly it depends on what tracks you will be running - and how comfortable you are with making a lot of gear changes and what kind of power you are running. Low RPM torque motor vs high RPM screamer.
I set up 3 cars for NASA ST-2 / TTA and each one has a different set-up.

One MN6 / 3.42
One M12 / 3.42
One GM Racing box / 3.90

Personally I like the MN6 with the M12 5th / 6th gears and a 3.42. (Pretty much what Tom is suggesting above)
It gives you more usable RPM so you're not spinning the crap out of the motor or constantly making extra shifts.

I should have said more, in the end of all this, I will probably pick the two or three most popular for road racing and 1 or two for autox. This is for one trans, although I guess you could buy different gear-sets and swap the guts before races?

Btw I feel you should know, the M12 5th and 6th gear is actually the same gear, it's has to do with 4th gear and that's what changes the M12's 5th/6th.

Id still like to have your ratios please (custom is perfectly fine and preferrable)

for autox the M12 is the ticket, we only use 2nd ( and 1st to start) so the 3-4 drop is not an issue. In fact one of the reasons the C6 Z06 is not winning SS is its crappy trans gearing( and the fact the ABS/ TCS cant be totaly turned off) The C6 GS is competitive in SS because of the trans swap and Mike johnson did well in ASP in a C6 Z06 that had a trans swap done to fix the ratios If you hit 3rd or worse 4th in an autocross them someone really does not know what is up on course design

Actually you can call RPM Transmssions - or RS Gear and tell them you want a MN6 box with the M12 5th/6th gear ratios and they will build it for you. I've priced it out before it's an extra $500. I wasn't suggesting that you buy 2 different boxes and make some sort of Frankenstien box out of it. What you are really looking for is a MN6 box with a more useable 5th gear.
The ratio's on our cars are just as Tom has listed above for the boxes I listed.

Ok so I'll put your opinion down for the M12's ratios

And I'll count your vote as what Tom would like.

Btw please reffer to this thread because a vendor Rkt56 outlines it better than he, and he strictly uses rpm parts

Or just toss out the 6th gear all together. and use a 5 speed.

Dont think I have use 6th gear since 2003 when I drove to Baltimore.

True but like some racers, they still drive their cars to the track. So prolly just as an overdrive. Does that change your ratio?

I think I may need a new title as people arnt taking this seriously and I may have to spill the news but I don't feel like having a debate.

Ok I see what you mean now, when I talked to RPM I explained that we would like a MN6 box with a more useable 5th gear (more like the M12 box) so they must have quoted me the extra $500 for the custom gears so that you could get a similar to the M12.

So I guess we'll just call it an MN6 custom box and go with that.
But I think that's the one you are going to want to go with.
