Default Options for "Fun Run" or HPDE tires

I was thinking about getting a set of Nitto NT01, Hoosier R6's or maybe the new Goodyear race tire for an option when Hoosier A6's would just get destoryed from heat. What would be a good option for longer life but still be a grippy tire. I don't need it to be street tire but something for those events where you might get 15+ in a day and don't care if your not the fastest but want to still be fast. My car is stockish 2003 ZO6 setup for SS class SCCA autocross but want to do some track day stuff also. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks! Mark

By accident I wound up with three R6's and one A6 on for my last event. The A6 wore at least twice as fast as the R6's did. If you go with R6's I think you would be happy.

Has anybody run Nitto's? I was thinking of using 315/18's all the way around with the NT-01. Of those that have run R6's, once up to temp how much grip would they have vs A6's and do they survive well with a lot of heat cycles? I am guessing they should being a road race tire. Thanks!

I have a bunch of 18/275 R6s for sale. They last a long time. Don't worry about A6 grip levels for HPDE. Nittos, in that size, prob have similar grip to the 275 R6s.

Good info. And yep, burning up 315's are probably not cost effective as just going with R6's on stock 17/18 zo6 sizes.

RXBen, how much would you want for your R6's and how many heat cycles have they been thru?

$40+ship per tire for Hoosier/Grand Am Continentals (for all practical purposes, same as R6). I have 2 sets of Hoosier/Contis (~6 heat cycles), 1 set of Hoosier/Konis (older, but stored properly, 2 heat cycles, essentially the same compound as the Conti).

They are not as grippy as A6s, but they are 10x better than street tires (that is lots more fund) and last a long time (I think Geerookie got like 40 heat cycles out of them).

I have burned up A6's in 2hrs, I have tried to make R6's last a year, I have run several sets of 710's. Since I don't run do TT nor W2W and run mainly HPDE's, I don't find it necessary to run expensive stickers. I now have 2 sets of Nitto 01's mounted. I have been running them this year and like 'em a whole lot. They don't give up much to the K's/R's nor A's for HPDE. They stay consistent for hard 30 minutes sessions and consistent weekend to weekend. I am usually running 17/18 and sometimes square up 18's if I push. They don't get greasy as quickly as some out there. As a matter of fact, DTC 70 pads won't lock em up too easily. I'll bet you'll like them.

Thanks for the input on the NT01's. A friend of mine with a very strong 997 loves them and says the same thing about the Nitto's. Often we have events with the PCA or SCCA and very few people show up and we wind up running for times one day or half a day and then do timed fun runs the rest of the day(s). And that is what I'm looking for is a consistent tire that won't need a gallon of water every time between runs to try to stay cool and won't get destoryed after one weekend of a lot of 50-60 sec runs with only 5 min or between runs.

Forget the Hoosiers for your use.

Or just call Todd at GT Race Tires and by scubbs
