Default Getting to VIR from the south

So now that I'm a southern gentleman, I was wondering what the best (fastest) route to VIR is from charleston SC.

this is what google maps says to take

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=ch...mra=ls&t=m&z=7

what do you all think?

That is OK? if you don't mind about 60 to 70 miles of narrow 2 lane and can't pass if you get behind a slow vehicle and 3 small towns to go thru, it will be great when US 74 is done all the way to I95. I take US26 to Columbia and US77 To Charlotte to US85, all 4 lane and no stop and go. Mileage about the same and faster. Some guys go up to Raleigh then up thru Roxboro and come in the back, right by the track. I have never gone that way, it seems longer to me. JD

yep, you're right only 20 miles more, but stick to main highways. I'll go that route on the way up this friday.

Yeah stick to 85 then hit 220/29 in Greensboro. Make sure your nav takes you to "old 85" into Greensboro and that you don't take the southern loop around the city.

If you need a pit stop, I'm just off of I85 exit 54, just north of the Charlotte Motor Speedway.....I'd be coming up myself but it is my son's birthday!

I-26 to I-77 to I-85 then 29 north. Put it in your GPS and it will tell you. This is the fastest and best 4 lane or more all the way until you turn off about 5-8 miles from the track.

I agree with the folks telling you to use the intestates and then use bus 85 to US29 to US58.

As one person said make sure you use the correct business 85 exit. IIRC its like the third time you see it after Concord. I don't have the directions I use on this PC. I'll update with exit number when I get home.

Merge onto I-85-BR N/US-70 E/US-29 N via EXIT 120A toward Greensboro
Merge onto US-29 N via EXIT 223 toward Reidsville

29 gets you into VA and you just get onto US 58 going east near Danville
