"That's an awfully hard wall at turn 9, it's lined with steel boilerplate"

I have this track in one of my PC driving sims. It is a lot of fun driving in some of the vintage cars modeled(914-6, GT-350, L88 Vette). Great to see it from back then!!!

Fuel tanks in front of the driver, McClosky lighting up a cig during the interview, AJ jumping into another car...WOW great race. What was McCay doing in Vienna? Not yet winter there so not skiing.

Race was late November, heard Peggy Fleming's name tossed around, so guessing it was figure skating?

This race footage was edited out from ABC's Wide World of Sports show which always broke the show up between two (usually very different) categories. The other part of the this show was "World Figure Skating Champions" from Vienna. I'm guessing it was one of those post-competition exhibitions.

Watching the cars it's really easy to see how primitive the tire and aero technology was at the time. The cars are quite clearly slow in the corners (compared to today) and the drivers were definitely man-handling the things. Very cool to watch Gurney, Clark, et al, doing their thing.

Check out the list of drivers in that race along with the list of different car makers. Sure not like that today
