Default These tire pressures sound right for R80s?

Doing Charlotte Motor Speedway Sun and Mon on R80 scrubs. Read about 10 tire pressure threads and Hoosier specs, so consensus - 29 cold left side front, 27 cold left side rear, 33 cold right side front, and 31 cold right side rear. I should be ending up hot at 39/43 front and 37/41 rear? Close enough?

That seems quite HIGH

On my Hoosier VRLs I would run 22 front cold and 20 rear cold

True slicks like the R80s or R100s low 20s cold high 20s hot

and thing in the 30s is way too hot and gressy

While this isn't for my vette, I'm running Goodyear Sports Car Special R430 slicks on my LS1 powered Miata. I've had just about zero success finding any suggestions about tire pressures for these tires, so I've been running 26f, 24r cold, aiming for low 30s hot.

Any idea if I'm in the ballpark?

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

OK, did better research. I was searching for R6 compounds thinking these were similar, but not. Here is what I found on Hoosier website:

LAKEVILLE, IN (March 8, 2011) — In an effort to offer our valued customers more tire size
options, Hoosier Tire will be introducing two new R80 / R100 radial slick sizes specifically for
Ferrari F430 Challenge customers.

Extensive testing has proven these radial slicks to perform with the best in class. Every aspect of vehicle dynamics, grip, turn in, steering feedback and quicker lap times, will be enhanced by using these radial slicks. Both 19” radial slicks will be available March 1.

Recommend air pressures should start at 24 – 26 psi cold and after a 20 minute track session, the hot pressures should be in the range of 32 – 34 psi hot. An increased air pressure setting of 2 – 4 psi above recommended on all four corners should be used when running at a banked oval
speedway road course

Can you cite one of those Hoosier specs where they recommend their slick tire pressures in the 40's? Just curious if these harder compounds prefer that much more. Or, is it because of the banking that the additional pressure is needed to keep the sidewalls stable?

Thanks,
Ed

Mike,

We are also using the 430 compound, and our 2900 pound C4 prefers 25 to 26 pounds HOT, with the fronts working hard at those pressures. Using air, that means starting COLD with 19 or 20 pounds all around.

Hope this helps.

I picked up some R80's from a pro engineered BMW racing team before; they used 23 cold, 29 hot. If I recall, they were -3 on camber.

Ed, thanks a TON for that info! My Miata is around 2600, but I bet the hot working pressures will work well for me.

BTW, is this the same Ed LoPresti of GA fame?

Have a good one,
Mike

Mike,

No fame here - just hard work. Not related as far as we know.

Ed, just to follow up, thanks for the advice! I dropped my tire pressures down 3 psi cold, and it was almost enough for my autocross. Unfortunately I didn't manage my pressures during the afternoon sessions and halfway through my last run the outer front tire got too hot (or pressure too high) and started sliding. I thought I'd corded the tire the way the grip went away, but the tire's fine!

Next time I'm gonna watch my pressure between runs more closely, then maybe I'll beat that supercharged Elise that took my FTD away on the very last run of the day!

Have a good one,
Mike
