Default Autocross - Tire Pressure

This is my first season of autocross in about 30 years so, I have a lot of catching up to do.

I'm running Nitto 555R 305/35 ZR18s and 275/40 ZR17s on a stock 03 Z. I've been running 35lbs in the rear and 32lbs in the front.

The front pushes a bit in really tight corners and the front tires are scrubbing - in the center - more than the rears.

I could use some recommendations on tire pressure. The temperature - for the next month or more - will be running around 100 degrees.

I'm also running the stock 03 Z shocks. Any thoughts on stepping up to the 04Z/C6Z shocks? I'd like to get the best set-up I can and still stay in SCCA Super Stock.

Thanks in advance.

The recommeded tire pressure setting for your car is 30 PSI front and rear, I would not run higher than that. I've never run the Nittos so I do not how how they react to different pressure settings. I'm using the Kuhmo XS, they have very stiff sidewalls, a cold setting pressure of 27 PSI works well for them.
Run a search there are many discussions on optimum tire and suspension setups for autocross. The article below has some usefull information.

I'd try cutting back on frt pressure and see if it helps the car turn.

I always run around 2 lbs more in the front then the back. On my Kumo xs 34 front 32 back if that helps any. Best thing is to play with the pressure until it feels good to you.

Drop the front to 28 cold and the rear to 26 cold. Most rear wheel drive cars do better with 2 to 3 lbs less pressure in the rear than in the fronts. To tune the handling during the day adjust one or two pounds up or down from the current warm pressure reading at each wheel.

Default Thanks Everyone

I went to 30 front and 27 rear and it worked much better. The scuffing seemed to be pretty much even accross the whole tread width.

There was almost no front end push in a really tight turn.

I may try going down a couple more lbs to 28/25.

Thanks Again.
