Default Hoosier wets & C6 Z06

What size of Hoosier wets are you using for your C6-Z06? And what is your wheel choice?
Thanks,
G

I posted the same question but haven't gotten an answer yet. Hoosier recommended 275 35 18 front with 10x18 wheels and 305 30 18 rears with 12x18. Problem may be the fact that tire diameter is only .4 difference.in my search I noticed people saying you need either half to one inch difference front to rear.

DISCLAIMER: We do not own a C6Z, nor do we use 18" diameter wheels.

What we can offer here is our experience on what works best in the rain. In order of importance:

[1] Excellent mechanical grip and scavenging of water. (If you are considering Hoosier, you have already made the best commonly available choice in this category.)

[2] Tall diameter tire.

[3] Narrow width tire.

[4] Heavier than typical wheels (but not necessarily wider).

I can not think of a scenario where maintaining an exact one-inch difference in tire diameter from front to rear would be important, unless it was to maintain a certain rake. In fact, if one can raise ride height (front height in particular), that is favorable in the rain.

Hope this helps,
Ed

This is my concern with the onboard computer is .4" enough to keep the nannies happy

Is anyone using Hoosier 275/35/18 front and 305/30/18 rears

can anyone help with this question. I would assume you would be running with all the nannies on in the rain. Would the OD difference between the front 275 35 18 and rear 305 30 18 ( only .4) affect the ABS, traction control, active handling etc... OEM tire OD is 1.1 for the C6Z06.

Why is that?

It affects Traction Control. The smaller rear tire in reference to the front tire can cause the TC to activate sooner. As long as the rear is bigger by the amount listed should be OK. Same size in the rear can cause TC to activate at speed or if smaller in the rear can cause TC to activate as soon as the car starts to move even if it is coasting down hill in neutral.

I just had a discussion on this a few days ago. Anthony at LG seems to think if the TC system was turned off that the car would perform with no issues.....

Thanks Bill and G man. I myself have been wanting to go with Hoosier wets for my C6Z06 using those sizes listed but haven't because of the T/C, ABS etc... I do understand that if you turn off the nannies it won't be an issue meaning the TC and AH but I think given the weather conditions it may be a bad idea. I'm sure that the Original Poster would be interested in finding out if other drivers run with the traction control and active handling turned off in the rain. I was informed that even with the system turned off the ABS can still be a problem because of the OD not meeting the proper size.

AH would still work but you would lose TC. Never seem to bother me losing TC but it is nice to have AH in the rain.

Nothing good ever happens in the wet.... My advice is to stay dry my friend and enjoy your dos equis!

As tmfmitw would say about it... "Find out in life what you don"t do well, and then don"t do it!!!"

Joe put my '09 Z06 back together after my wet track (41 degree) Hoosier R6 experience in late 2009. It was a $20,000 lesson. Now I just hang out in the paddock on wet days.

Joe told me his wet track words of wisdom after he saw my car that day. I have taken them to heart.

All better, now....

Cheers

Steve

Yes learning to race in the rain takes practice, God knows I need more, but honestly examine your goals. Do you plan to be racing for regional and/or national championships in the next few years? If so slap on the Hwets, turn off the nannies and get out there and push and learn. But don't be surprised if your lessons are expensive, but that's the price of racing. If you never plan to do more than drive your street car in HPDE's, why risk it? Grab a beer and a lawn chair and kick back in the trailer.

I can see how using R6s or A6s would be a bad idea in the rain but I've seen plenty of cars using hoosier wets with good results. What size wheels and tires are you guys using for your C6Z06 in the rain.

Hoosier full wets are truly a double-edged sword.

As I mentioned in one of the earlier posts in the thread, they are THE commonly available, wet weather tire to have, IF you must run in the rain. But they are kind of like the Wax Wings fashioned by one of the young Greek Gods - they allow one to fly higher and higher and higher, until . . . . .

When one does go off, because he is traveling MUCH faster that ordinarily possible with "normal" tires, the consequences are much greater. Hoosier full wets will allow you to fly very, very close to the sun!

I love running in the rain. Last year, I had 45 minutes at Autobahn all to myself because everyone else packed up. I was able to explore the track and find a wet line.

Exactly I was one of the cars that left

That is why I'm wanting rain tires...... Drive 5-6 hrs and get 20min of dry track time is a bummer

I think the goodyear rain tires are better-you should check into those.

Running on real rain tires is completely different than running on street tires. If you do hit that wet grass, you do tend to 'accelerate' though
